I am upgrading my home network, and am looking for 802.11ax APs. I wanted to go with Ubiquiti, as I am already using a 12 port PoE EdgeRouter from the, but alas they have not even released a statement concerning 802.11ax. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of the brand EnGenius for APs? I found the EnGenius Neutron EWS377AP Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) 4x4 Managed Indoor Wireless Access Point Features OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and consumes Less Power with Maximum speeds to 3.5 Gbps on Amazon for $292. I have never heard of this brand, and am just trying to do my due diligence since it is so expensive.

Solution
Did they officially release the standard for 802.11ax. Was suppose to be first quarter 2019 then they delayed to what people said would be oct but I heard they now say late 2019 which likely means December.

Anything you buy now does is considered "draft" equipment and may not meet the standard. It was a massive issue for 802.11n with equipment that was not compatible and it was in the hardware so no way to fix.

Many companies will not even start to produce equipment until the standard is set. This means likely mid 2020 before you see the larger name cell phones with it. It is not projected to be very common like 802.11ac is until 2022.

You will pay much more to be a early adopter. I am going to wait and see how well all...

Thanks for this! I will wait as well then. :D

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) hasn't been finalized yet but the certification program started last week.

This means that the hardware specs are finished, and any certified draft-ax device will be firmware/driver upgradable to the final standard when it comes out. Draft-ac actually worked pretty well and nothing like the Rockwell/Lucent K56-Flex vs. USR X2 debacle.

With that one, only the full HSP/HCF Winmodems that run entirely in software turned out to be completely upgradable to the final V.92, and that's because what little hardware there was didn't do much.
