UPS keeps reaching overload randomly -- replace?

I have been using a Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS for about 6 years.

Recently the unit began having sudden capacity overload errors. It has happened about 4-5 times in the past two months. When this occurs, I hear a single continuous beep then the UPS shuts off and so does my PC.

After the first time, I took both my monitors and my sound system off the UPS, plugging some into an extra wall outlet, and the others into the UPS' surge-only outlets.

This didn't seem to have much effect... a week later the overload occurred again. I looked and normally the PC draws about 22% of the UPS on normal operation.

Is the UPS simply getting old after almost 7 years? Should I replace it?

You SHOULD replace the batteries. They are good for 3 - 5 years before replacement.

As Kanewolf said, its most likely an issue with the batteries not the UPS itself.

Sounds like a classic failing UPS battery to me. It's actually recommended to replace these every 3-5 yrs. I've had the same thing happen to me at work that your describing, which turned out to be the batteries.
