[SOLVED] Urgent help! Does new windows setup remove old files?

If you mean the files in other partitions, then yes you will still be able to access them until and unless you only format the windows partition.

For the files in the Windows partition, they will be deleted. Better take a backup.

So this is what happened,

I was doing a disk defragmentation when my pc crashed suddently. Then i tried to get back into the pc, but windows said that the boot could not bee done. I tried all kinds off stuff and nothing worked.

So can i from a usb stick boot up a new version of window (old one broken), and if i do so does the files i had in my computer before get deleted? (I dont want them to get deleted)

Thx

Yes. If you reinstall windows(format) the old files will be deleted.

You can try one other thing instead. Create a Windows isntallation USB and run windows repair from it. This should fix your problem and you won't lose your files.

Microsoft seem to deliberately prevent users from upgrading the OS themselves without loosing all the software the user himself has installed. They talk about all your apps and data being retained without explaining that this refers to Store Apps and not to anything requiring an install program.

The built in system upgrade in Settings manages to keep everything so why do MS deliberately prevent users from doing it eh? And believe me, it makes no difference if you run from an ISO on another disk/USB or if you boot from a USB.
