I recently purchased a PCI USB 2.0 controller card for my system. It
has the ALi M5273 chipset, and I am running under WinXP SP2. I have
found that the transfer speeds are about the same from my digital
camera to my hard drive, whether I use the new USB 2.0 ports or the USB
1.1 ports built into my motherboard. The cable I am using is also
supposed to be USB 2.0 compliant. What could I do to improve my
speeds? Secondly, I have an extra bracket with 2 USB ports that came
with my motherboard... and it functions fine when I plug it into my new
USB 2.0 card. Should it be able to suppoort USB 2.0 speeds as well, or
will it be limited to USB 1.1?

Thanks, that actually was the problem. I guess that I shouldn't have
assumed the camera was USB 2.0 just because it was only a year and a
half old. My USB 2.0 flash drive worked great when plugged in, and was
much faster when connected to the USB 2.0 port.

Maybe your cameras transfers at the slower USB speed. The bracket with 2
USB ports will assume the speed of the USB controller they are attached to.
