usb 3.0 isnt the end of the world, if you were happy with 2.0 before then you have no reason to complain that your new system is outdated. After all, isnt that how things work in the world of electronics?

"so my question is... will my 16 GB USB thumb drive show any benefit using USB 3.0, or does my USB device have to be 3.0 compatible?"

I believe you won't see any benefits as in most USB drives the drive electronics is the main obstacle when achieving high transfer rates.

[citation][nom]mcnuggetofdeath[/nom]Will it finally have decent sustained transfer rates? And how well will it match up against Firewire and E-Sata?[/citation]

5Gigs per sec, while sata3 6gigs per sec

Could you make a HDMI to USB3 convertor that would send signal very far with a USB3 to HDMI convertor on the other end to a HDTV since HDMI doesn't run very far, similar to those boxes that convert HDMI to 2 cat5e cables for transmission?

>the new technology should be able to handle 1080i HD video streams,

Elgato EyeTV tuners have been doing that over USB 2.0 since 2007.
