[citation][nom]rwpritchett[/nom]Good job ASRock, but I really wish they would change their name. When I hear "Ass-rock" I think of heavy metal 80's hair-bands. Why not Asus-lite?[/citation]
It's actually ASIA ROCK

good job asrock, bad job intel, intel chipsets really sucks, dont know how people can buy motherboards using intel chipsets...

The reason we weren’t able to get our normal 4.00 GHz clock speed from our Core i7-920 CPU is that when we pressed for higher voltage levels to support higher clock speeds, the system would reset under full load. This is part of the over-current protection ASRock implemented in a previous revision. The well-protected voltage regulator has not been “beefed up,” and is therefore suitable only for light-duty overclocking.

So we're to infer that a 1.14GHz, or 43% overclock is light-duty, and a 1.34GHz 50% is heavy-duty? C'mon... You're splitting hairs there.

As for the meat of the article, it's about dang time a company did this w/ USB3. I still fear industry-wide adoption will be slow, if it even happens at all.

Floppy + Xp: you are joking right? What about slipstreaming? The average joe will not run on AHCI/RAID unless its a OEM. That leaves out enthusiasts, they do not need floppy IF the board supports flashing BIOS from USB devices....... then its ok (Gigabyte's Q-Flash, Asus also has it, just forgot about it).... AHCI/RAID, like I said, if you need them you are not an average joe, u can just use nlite to slipstream the AHCI/RAID drivers..... -even average joe may be able to slipstream it himself knowing nlite is sooo easy....

I see no issues ditching floppy disk even in markets XP prevails....
Trust me, in my country, Vista made such a bad rap, that every1 thought 7 will be crap..... Thus,I have a friend that amazingly bought new licence of XP home right after the release of 7 for his brand new i5-750 computer. They bought it because they thought XP was stable and no problems.... what a joke... after facing a crappy Dell laptop which had a honestly crappy unoptimized factory image of Vista.

One question....will the case i buy need usb 3.0 front ports or will a normal case with normal usb ports use it to transfer usb 3.0 speeds ( i know stupid question but i need to ask)

I hope motherboard manufacturers would add a cable which connects to the mobo's USB3 port at one end and has a female USB3 at he other, because current cases offer front USB3 by having a cable to connect to the rear USB3 port. If this can be added to the case or mobo, or even purchased separately for a reasonable price, it'll be great!

If you've paid enough attention, you'd know Asrock includes front USB3 ports to be installed in a 3.5" drive bay (aka floppy drive bay). So no modding required!

akash3656 i am really guessing that you are living in india right now....it is quite true.....vista got screwed here really....people who had never used it said its crap...."bcoz some one ...mostly their freindly neighbourhood computer chap told them that......

still people just want Xp here..... and they are willing to pay for it :bounce: ....... But W7 is really good ...dont know why people dont want to at least try it

its like vista gave 7 some stigma attached to it :pfff:

Its great they want to add a front panel USB3 interface, but i would never buy an ASRock product, plus there are not a whole lot of USB3 products on the market. JMO

Is there a graph for the actual HD on SATAII/III connector as compared to it via USB3 front panel ?
Would a 470Mb/s / 350Mb/s SSD not been a better test drive to use or a slow 280Mb/s read, 275Mb/s write SSD $140.00 @ 60GB ?

Surely no one will use a lawn mower / paper weight "7200/15000rpm HD" via USB3.

The cable from Asrock was it one and the same tested on all of the motherboards or each motherboards own cable ?

Shielding for front panel cables used to be pathetic especially audio + humming and other noise from close by caps / power cables.
Does this USB3 front cable address this or have a fix for it ?

Is there a decent USB3 front panel "Monster Cable" cable or something as alternative or standard to test all these mboards with as comparison to junk in the box ?

Back panel USB3 versus front panel via cable USB3 graph for comparison ?
This would rule out poor quality USB3 enclosures / usb3 to SATAII / SATAIII adapters.

Win7 seems to be getting better.

I am a Linux / XP freak and tested / typing this on Vista Ultimate32 I had to modify it to be as fast as XP / as stable as XP. Vista is and was junk but can be usable for office use.

8 pc's / laptops here in house.

Win7 used to be a major pain and junk but I tried the SP1beta and now are seriously considering it as 2nd or main OS of choice.
I can finally play games on Win7 SP1beta in full screen that would not have run or ran crappy on win7 no SP windowed mode only.
IE9beta is one of the few things turning my ideas about win7 as compared to my favorite now pathetically slow Firefox "GCC4.5.* poor coding / optimization Mozilla bug".
MS win update drivers is becoming more stable and almost usable so no need for AMD CCC + some bloatware that comes with it unless serious about gaming then will only do Manufacturers drivers only.

MS is seriously cleaning up their act with Win7 SP1beta.

What still gets me is the missing "explorer" option and IE9beta missing menu bar + a few irritating 100 clicks to get to tcp-ip to set static ip or trying to translate XP related easy to find and fix options / problems in WIN7 SP1beta.
Why I need to use UWT or other programs to get WIN7 usable + disable all the Ultimate bloatware and other slow pc down software is beyond comprehension.

Server 2008R2 with classic explorer / classic control panel / classic desktop / classic start menu would have been much better than Win7 but that would not happen or a classic xp look and feel theme might not happen for win7 either and it is so extremely needed now.

The inbuilt spy on us Win7 / Vista feature still concerns me as any moron can hack and steal your info via this while XP is unsafe by default and you can put something decent that works in place to make it more secure.
Can not yet partially secure or make win7 more secure that your trashcan outside your house that any fool can rummage trough.

Win7 SP1beta major issues with some anti virus programs and SSD drives like Comodo CIS or no antivirus and just OCZ SSD performance in general.

Possibly as the USB3 color differs + the old usb2 is a cable to some pc board with connectors on it that can easily be replaced but is usually bad quality + gets interference from other radio signals ect.
Some of the USB2 front panel connectors is default 1 5volts + 1 3volts never mind what Gigabyte "all is 5v" idiots tell you.
So will have to get them to all be good quality 5V rated + shielded if possible.

Just stick a usb drive "5v needed" in there and see if the drive clicks or the drive runs smooth / normal.

Erm.... firstly, i guess i should have been clear from the beginning. I'm an indian but not from India, born and brought up in Malaysia. I guess same thing happened to Malaysia too except now people SLOWLY are beginning to understand that 7 is the way to go.

Yes I agree Windows 7 is good if your computer is circa >2007
In fact(using it right now on gaming rig and my mum's atom ION HTPC).
Trust me, neither did I like Vista due to some random bug that causes shutdown to be about >5mins.... its fixed in 7.
Even nowadays, a fully patched Vista still gives me some 'crashes'.

Your problem seems unique in a sense.. but i guess not everyone has a trouble free rig.... and Ati drivers have been wonky for me too.
Only 10.3-10.5a and 10.8 and 10.9 works... rest all shutters.

and yes the UI is a FUBAR, basic TCP/IP takes many clicks....
but I have been living with ribbon UI and like IE9's UI...
I guess its about taste here.

And Firefox:its a fail software.... i used it since ver 2, since ver 3 they have been slow, slow, and slower....... slow cold startup, slow loading script heavy pages where IE does better, excessive Page file usage (causes lags here also) to reduce RAM usage in benchmarks.
Using chrome with a couple of addons, feel MUCH better, granted chrome uses more RAM, but at least doesn't slow down the OS with Page File usage....

I will say the IE team hopefully will make Firefox team wake up...

Just wondering, what spy feature in 7/Vista are you talking about?....
WAT? Windows Update? or what?

well.... if had paid attention...i wouldnt have asked this question now would i??

i just jumped straight to the comments section w/o reading....(office reading of toms doesnt make for a healthy work day :non: )

am reading it now...thx for poiting it out to me..... coz my next case a cooler master rc100k doesnt have front usb 3.0 ports...this would be nice.....

@ akash3656...

i agree...but here in my country ..SLOWLY means S-L-O-W-L-Y...Unless MS gives away a few copies for free.....its only going to be the topmost companies tthat use W7 for a while now...

i kinda like it....almost like using OS X tiger......

really catching up arent they MS........ the only reason i went back to xp...

i cant play videos on W7...have an old onboard 845G graphics contrller......that sucks as W7 doesnt have any drivers for it...... mostly choppy video..... audio lag etc......

otherwise i wouldnt want to get rid off W7..

@ warrawarra....

if ur so bothered about W7 issues.....try
xDark v 3.5 x64 version modified W7...its good...has all the tweaks in it ....
or Last OS 7 v2.0....

u need a valid W7 license though as usual to use either one of those.....

i had been using xdark...workd like a charm

@deletemach_kernel: u can FORCE install the XP drivers of the 845g... i know this chipset... can't do aero either......

I disagree however... Windows 7 may look more Mac-like but it still behaves totally different from Mac.... in Snow Leopard, its better (the dock) but i prefer windows 7's taskbar more...
But the fundamental's of Windows 7 taskbar dates from pre Windows 95 days... oppened apps actually appeared as an icon not like in Windows 95-Windows Vista... and of course Microsoft copied the 'pinning' of programs from Mac.... but to also replace the quick launch bar.

You're splitting hairs there.[/citation]Not even slightly. The 4.00 GHz overclock normally uses was not cited as "heavy duty overclocking", its "moderate overclocking" and the board can't do it because it has a weak VRM. If the board can't do moderate overclocking, it certainly can't do anything heavier.[citation][nom]WarraWarra[/nom]Shielding for front panel cables used to be pathetic especially audio + humming and other noise from close by caps / power cables. Does this USB3 front cable address this or have a fix for it?[/citation]There wasn't a problem with ASRock's cable and bay adapter. As for the ones attached to the case, poor shielding is a problem with the case manufacturer.

hmmmm.....i have tired many times to force install 845 g drivers in compatibility mode, but verytime.... after the system boots it works for like 5 mins...then bam!!!! "my screen goes black and hdd lights go out..but my fans are still running" :pfff: :fou:

never could find a way out f this....so went bak to xp..... if you have any ideas to solve it let me know....

Hello everyone,
