USB 3.0 very slow @ 2MB/s

I just recently bought a Seagate 2TB harddrive that has USB 3.0 my computer has two USB 3.0 slots I have tried both and the average transferring speed is around 2MB/s which is very slow. My motherboard is an AMD A6-3620 APU and when I go to the device manager it says both my AMD USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - (0096) Microsoft have drivers fully updated. Any suggestions on how to fix this speed? Do you think it might be windows 8.1?

I do not think it is a Windows 8 issue. Windows 8/8.1 had been build with support for USB 3.0 in mind.

Please ensure you are copying a single LARGE file for tests as small files are slow on mechanical drives.

Can you check on a USB 2.0 port to see how the speeds are. USB 2.0 ports should get about 30ish megabytes a second on large files. If it works on the USB 2.0 port, you may wish to see about getting another cable. If that does not work, the drive may have a defect.

Yeah I tried the usb 2.0 ports with the usb 3.0 cable and got speeds of 2MB/s as well. I tried copying a single movie file and was getting 3MB/s was very slow. So I am not sure what else to do, im thinking it may just be the drive. What I am currently doing is I have 2 external drives hooked up and I am taking everything from the usb 2.0 one and moving it to the usb 3.0 one.

USB devices can share bandwidth. it may be work trying to copy a large file to the computer then to the drive to see if it is any better.

That is very slow for sure(even heavy fragmentation would not get this bad).

Well thanks for your help I will probably just try different files directly from the computer and if anything I will probably exchange the hard drive. The error reporting brought back zero errors as well.
