I've have just purchased a new laptop with an external USB CD/DVD drive.

When I plug in the CD drive I get the following message.

The USB mass strorage device is a hi-speed USB device and will function at
reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI SPEED port.

The laptop then recommends me to disconnect the drive and connect it to
another USB port although I have no others on the laptop.

So therefore the CD drive is not recognised. Does anyone have any ideas on
what is wrong an how to fix it please? The CD drive used to wrok the first 2
or times I used the machine no problem.

Thanks

Steve.

Actually, the CD Drive is recognized just fine. It is telling you that
your CD Drive is a USB 2.0 drive and the USB Ports on your computer are
currently running at USB 1.0/1.1 speeds. If this is a new laptop, it
should have USB 2.0 ports on it. Check the BIOS settings to see if you
can enable HiSpeed USB in there or install the latest drivers for your
chipset. If you post the make and model of your laptop, I can find
those drivers for you.
