Hi , I've been having this problem for quite sometime. At random times my USB devices such as mouse or USB headset will disconnect at random times and reconnects about a second later. I was dealing with it but its becoming very very annoying. When i'm on skype and the disconnect happens I cant hear people in the call so I have to unplug and plug back in my headset to hear them again. This seems to happen a lot more often when I'm playing a game which leads me to believe I may be power related. I i have the latest bios and have disabled all power saving options in power options and device manager for all USB related items (USB root hub, ect). I have an ASUS X550LB-NH52 Notebook. Please someone help me with this problem before i mess up something in the registry trying to fix this.

It could be software but my bet is it is something hardware related. Something is forcing your USB to re-enumerate. It could be something as simple as ESD hitting one of your devices or even your chassis depending on your grounding and the state of your USB shield which isn't always grounded.

I've seen floating shields/housing on USB connectors(the shield is left floating instead of grounding it to the motherboard/chassis ground). It could even be a half-broken wire in your headset/microphone or keyboard or mouse if they are USB.

Have you installed anything that may have affected it?
If you haven't, what do you think started causing it?

Try those peripherals (mouse, headset) from someone else or buy a cheaper new pair and test them to see if they aren't broken right now.

I did do a fresh install of windows 8 and I don't remember it happening before that although I don't see how that could affect things. Also it barely happens if I'm not playing a game so its leaning towards software related. All of my drivers are up to date from using Iobit's Driver Booster if you know what that is. I've also tried uninstalling the usb hubs in device manager and reboot so they can re install to no avail. I'll try using a different mouse later to see if that helps but its also my headset. I heard there are registry edits to fix this but couldn't get them to work.

I have a similar problem on my Asus Z97-A motherboard, but I have been able to narrow down the problem. Read on for something interesting...

1) For me, the problem is only with SOME USB 3.0 devices like Card readers and external harddrives (some multidtrive USB 3.0 readers do work, some HDs are temperamental about when they will work) - this is all very weird.
2) But the most weird thing is that the problem only occurs when I join my windows 8.1 pro pc to a domain, as soon as I take it off the domain, the problem goes away - this seems to imply that the domain group policies have something to do with it. But why then do some drives work on and off?

I tried the power options as described in the post (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2335635/usb-drives-disconnected-reconnected-usb-work-great-usb.html)
and I have tried disabling XHCI as described in the post (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1885037/windows-usb-devices-disconnect-reconnect-power-saving.html)

None of the above worked.
