Hello,

I have a strange problem for several recent bus powered usb harddisks under Win XP. they work fine for all accounts except admin, where I get windows delayed write failed errors.

nrmally i would expect the opposite (ok for admin, problems for non admin)

any help greatly appreciated

Could you clarify whether you see an error message under admin but the drive still works or that it does not work but only under admin.

The way the drive has been formatted will determine the reason you would get a write error.
The error will not show up as a non admin user due to your settings on error messages being displayed.

Check the removal policy
you have two options
1. Quick removal - should write directly to drive
2. Better performance - delays write but if the unit is removed or the software controlling it disconnect its connection you will get a delayed write error and data could be lost.

thanks lateralnw:

no problems at all when using any account that is NOT admin

when XP session opened as admin and drive is connected content shows up after some time, but all root level folders on harddisk appear empty, then typically after a minute or so i get the ballon with windows delayed write error (even WITHOUT having copied anything)

again this happens for some of my usb powered disks (freecom 600GB and samsung 1TB) but not for others (typically smaller)

all my external disks are NTFS

error appears n matter if quick removal or better performance selected in removal policy
