Hi I'm working on my friend's computer and they had some guy come in to clean it up and I think he removed things he wasn't supposed to and now whenever I plug in an USB device, It is being detected but the default driver is not installed. When i check Device manager, I see this message:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."
I have plugged in a plug and play External hard disk drive and a plug and play USB drive and they both receive this type of error. I have tried uninstalling the device, removing it and trying to let the os detect and install the driver again but it has not yielded any success. There are no available drivers for these two devices as they came as plug and play devices and they work on other computers running xp and vista.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Follo this steps:

1- Start, and run
2- write this gpedit.msc
3- In the left panel, look for the section "computer configuration" or something like this
4- Administrative templates
5- system

And in the right panel, look for the option "Disable autorun", double click and select disable.
