USB RESOURCE ERROR AFTER MOBO/CPU upgrade

Hey guys, I just upgraded my CPU (i7-6700 to i7-8700K) and mobo (Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 to Z370G asus rog strix) and I've having a bit of an issue with my roccat sova/wired steelseries headset/razer mouse all working from the roccat sova. Originally the headset and mouse were plugged into the keyboard and the two USB from the keyboard into the front of my case.

Here's the specs:

i7-8700K (no OC yet)
Z370G matx
Corsair LPX 2X8GB 3200
Evga 750 Gold modular PSU
Evga 1080ti SC Hybrid
H100i V2
A bunch of ML120 fans.


(roccat sova lapboard)
-2x USB 2.0 on the keyboard (mouse/headset) and 1 cable from keyboard split into 2xusb 2.0 (into front panel)

(thermaltake core v21 case)
-has 2x3.0 USB on the front panel

(New Asus Rog Strix Z370G matx)
-internal USB going to front panel is 3.1 Gen1 (old mobo was 3.0)

-steel series arctis 5 headset
-razer deathadder chroma


Anyone know why the new setup isn't working? Headphones will work but as soon as I try to get the mic happening it gives me the "not enough USB resources error" I'm still pretty noob and would appreciate the help!

You may be running too many devices on one USB port. Try moving something to a new port.

Your devices are probably drawing too much power for that USB port.

Try getting a power USB hub or using multiple USB ports.

I was hoping to not have to run another cable to my pc. It worked fine on my previous setup. But I guess I may be stuck with that

I wonder why it worked on an older mobo? I only have the roccat sova plugged into the two USB and a mouse and headset plugged into the roccat sova. Nothing else in any other USB. Seems pretty wimpy for a brand new z370 motherboard 🙁

Your older motherboard must have had more robust power delivery to the USB port. It doesn't mean the new one or the old one is bad. If you want a single cable to the PC, do as I suggested and get a quality powered USB hub and run that cable to the PC and the other cables in to the USB hub.

It may not be a power issue as much as it is a bandwidth issue on that USB port. Those ports use lanes to the chipset to communicate with the system and your old MOBO must have been configured differently from this one. My suggestion stands as to just use a different port on the back of your system or run an extension from the back to alleviate cord length issues.
