Usb sandisk 16gb

I keep plugging in my usb 16gb sandisk into any computer and it keeps popping up saying the usb device is not recognized. it actually says "one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it" hinting at the usb i just plugged in and it titles it "unknown device" i try to troubleshoot it and its like im going in circles over and over again and i never get anything done. its still an unknown unrecognized device. is there anything i can do at all? on the computer? or does is just not work? PLEASE HELP ME!, i don't have the receipt to radio shack to return it and it was $20. all i want to do is watch sons of anarchy.

Is this a flash drive or a SD card in a usb adaptor?

If it's a flash drive, I would rma it.
