Does anyone know if USB to LPT cable works normally under UNIX, without any drivers? Our company is changing servers (PC based) to replace really old ones, and mobo doesn't have LPT port. It is really needed because we are using dotmatrix printer to print reports, and printer is only equipped with LPT port.

OS: SCO Openserver 5.0.7

Thnx.

Check the cable specs that you want to get. I do know that WindowsXP looks for drivers for those things, so 99% sure that UNIX will need them, if they will work at all under that OS.

Try using an external JetDirect box and network the printer, although that depends on the printer model as to how well that will work.

If the printer is really needed, have whoever is bying the new servers get them with the correct ports. Bit silly to spec out a system that won't do what you need it do. Or set one server aside to use with legacy equipment.
