Question USB troubles

Recently bought a Thermaltake Tower 900 case. It has 2 seperate USB 3 cable going to the ports on the front of the case. Purchased a splitter. Neither set of ports show up in "this pc" when a USB stick is inserted. Checked device manager. Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Any suggestions?

Tried the obvious, check for updates, removal of device etc. Nothing. I put the USB sticks in the wifes laptop, no problem there...

Hmmmmm...wonder if any one makes a decent AMD MB with 2 USB 3 ports on it?
