Hello people, i have an gtx 980 zotac amp! Omega... one day i send my gpu for cleaning the heatsink from dust in an car workshop, but they ruined and destroyed one of the fans.. nevermind, some discusilns there and there but i cant do they paid for my error (send my card to them) ...

So im decided to remplace the stock cooler with and more advanced one, a cpu water cooling (thermaltake water 3.0 pro). Can it be possible? Maybe modify some parts to make the pump/block compatible, can i do that? Or the card will burn into flames? Please, need some advices 🙁

not only do you need to worry about the chip itself, but the VRMs. what you could do is ghetto zip tie the block and card together, then see if you can find heatsinks for the VRMs (or make them yourself out of the old card heatsink) and perhaps attach a fan to help cooling.

It wont look pretty, but ittl work.

Done! I put an molex quiet but full speed fan there and works fine... and provide better cooling than the old stock fan thats mad... but works really good... btw, there r any way to use that aio wster cooling for the gpu? Cuz i will not use that aio anymore and dont want to throw it to the trash

Hey, speaking from experience with my HD7950 with a H55 zip-tied on, it works really good! My card did have a metal plate/brace which cooled the VRMs etc. My temps are down from 80C at load to around 65C.

OP, if you are thinking of doing this mod to your card, there are really useful threads around, i linked one below. If your card doesn't have any sort of cooling for the VRMs, cheapo heatsinks with some thermal glue or pads are good. I have no fans blowing over the card at all, and the radiator is ghetto mounted but it runs well.

Here chileans (i live in chile) we have no choices to buy these special aio coolers like the special cooling for gpu, so gluing a fan to the heat sink r the only solution that comes to my mind... and if works thats good to me, and i keep the config for now, im still looking for an aero cool hybrid for universal gpu,a fully heat sink and water cooling for the gpu chip... but is not cheap and need to wait months for it... 🙁 by the way, my setup works fine for now...

Ohh ... but my graphics card has an cooper bracket for vrams and i can put an cutie small heatsink for the vrms and a little fan for them, and sure, modify the s2011 bracket to make the pump/block compatible with the gpu... that works? I want to use my unused water 3.0 pro for it 😱

So do you have something similar to this underneath the heatsink on your card?

Thats not hard to do with the materials that i have... but these thermal armor for the vrams (a plate without heatsink, just thermalpads and the plate)would be enough? Or requiere some more advanced cooling? And the vrm tiny heatsink with an 120mm fan would work? How much cooling these components need?

I think if you have a side fan on your case blowing air over the card you should be fine, but if you don't, finding a way to get some airflow over the card is a good idea. Maybe mount the fan from the HDD bays?

I can buy an pair of 120 mm fan and put them over the card, i had an storm inside the chassis with my fans installed, but its a good idea to cool by that metod,at least, the thermal plate would work similar to a heatsink, right? And with that pair of fans i can make some new armor for the gpu and that will be great 😀 ... the other thing isbthe pump, the mb can feed two pumps? Or just adapt the pump to molex? Cuz i already have a pump for the cpu...

I'd just get a fan splitter or something like that. Im not sure about molex but google it because it might be OK
