I used to boot up in 45 seconds but now after I did a repair to reload windows It takes 25 seconds to get to the windows is loading and sits there for 1 minute and 45 seconds. I have not changed anything except reload xp prof. with the repair option.I keep my start up programs to a mim. in msconfig and see no other sign of anything else causing this. Does any one have any ideas to what I should look for. Thanks

not sure why thats happened, but i remember on my old asus mobo, i had an option in the bios for fast boot, it did things like not count the ram from 0 upto 1gig, it just showed the full amount straight away etc...

i want the option on my new gigabyte mobo, but it sucks

Found the problem, I reloaded XP with the repair option. I forgot that my XP was SP1 and it converted my system back to SP1. Once I reinstalled SP2 every thing is back to normal even my 40 second boot time. Thanks Bruce

to fix a slow boot on my old machine, (with about the same specs as yours give or take) i ran dskchk and it booted up a little slower than a fresh install! (due to so many services)

Well being I just built this pc with a 3800 dual core it isn't that old.But as I posted in the last post I found the problem, I reloaded with a repair option and my sp2 update was converted back to sp1 because my xp cd was of that version. Thanks for the reply. Bruce
