Useing TV as a PC monitor via hdmi issues

I recently built my son a gaming computer and spent a considerable amount of money on the graphics card the GForce GTX Titan. My son wants to use his 32 inch Sony LCD brava via hdmi wich is 60mhz. It is set to gaming, and the profile is set to PC through the hdmi. The problem? The graphics are not as good as his Xbox using this setup, my question is why? I have read a lot about settings and mine are all correct for what I have, it seems to me if Xbox can connect to TV via hdmi with a perfect picture why can't a $900 video card do it? There is no special settings to change to get it to work, so I guess I am just not understanding why the graphics don't look as good as xbox on the tv via hdmi. If anybody can explain this to me I would appreciate it. As of now it looks like I will have to buy a hd gaming monitor, which I didn't foresee. The graphics work ok, but for the money I spent I want them to pop and I'm not seeing that with this setup.

The problem was a bad hdmi port on the graphic card, I had to RMA it and got a new replacement and problem solved

Please explain how it looks bad.

Does the image flow off the screen or leave black borders around the edges? If it does, you need to adjust the overscan/underscan on the video card or TV.

Also ensure you are playing at the TV's native resolution(1920 x 1080 I would guess).

When I say it looks bad, it's just not as sharp, almost like its not in hd, the tv is at the right resolution.

When you set it to "Gaming" mode you are actually losing quality not gaining any for the sacrifice of quality you get about ~1 ms better response time. Are you sure you are setting the graphics in game to max? What is the rest of your computer specs? I would assume you know with the GTX Titan you wouldn't buy a $50 processor and expect to have any type of good performance.

How loud are the SP120 higher performance compared to the stock H100i fans?

So, my questions above, overscaning or underscanning? games at 1920 x 1080? How does the desktop look?

Hi,
You didn't specify what TV input that you are using. Unless the TV has a specific HDMI "PC" input, use a nonspecific HDMI input. Set the "gaming" profile back to normal.
If your motherboard has an HDMI out, then you can eliminate the GPU as the problem(or another working GPU). Another HDMI cable will eliminate that possibility.

I agree I went a little overboard with this build, it's my first build in 19 years, and I had a lot of fun with it. I wanted a beast. The fans are not that loud if you use the custom curve settings which I am having some trouble with because of a software issue corsair is having with Haswell, but they are working on it. Now back to the desktop it looks great it fits perfectly, I am useing two monitors, the Sony as the primary and I extend it to a 22 inch Acer via dvi with no problem, which is what first got my attention, it had a better picture then the hd TV, more crisp. But back to my original question, how is it that I can plug in a Xbox 360 into the tv with hdmi and it has a beutiful pic with a inferior video card where this beast looks less quality on the same tv ? I keep reading checking all my settings, you know native resolution which is at 1920x1080 at 60 MHz the tv has 4 hdmi outs and one vga PC out, I can edit the name of the hdmi to PC which changes the settings to graphics and disables all the crap like deep black and stuff like that its the same settings as the PC I checked. I tried the motherboard hdmi out, but after the graphic card is installed it appears the motherboard onboard video is disabled. I used to build computers years ago and this is my first build in 19 years so I have had to do a lot of catching up to do so I might be doing somthing wrong. But to me I should be able to plug this thing up to the tv and have it look a lot better then the Xbox. And that's not what I am seeing.

Looking slightly less sharp is one thing. A larger screen with the same number of pixels as a smaller screen will not look as sharp, but most users sit farther from the TV making this less of an issue.

I want you to try something strange. Play your games at a lower screen resolution(1280 x 720 or so). Most systems run those resolutions and then just upscale it.
