Hi people

I have the GTA San andreas and have placed shortcuts to my Mp3s in the C:\My
Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\User Tracks folder. Ran a "scan user
track" after
loading SA and still I get just commercials. Anyone else had this
problem......

When I do the scan the HDD light doesn't even flicker....

Is this a codec problem.......

I do have Media player 10 and have even tried converting an MP3 to OGG and
placing it directly in the above folder but I still get just commercials

Does anyone else have this problem and a possible fix.......

Thanks in advance...

GTA has its own mp3 decoder, so codecs for media player are not
involved.

Have you tried placing the MP3 files directly in that folder instead of
just making shortcuts? That worked for me (didn't even try the shortcuts)

I believe that SA requires an external player for MP3s. There are two
different packages (Media Player and another) specified during the
install.

Are you sure SA has its own MP3 decoder? In the manual it says that it can
play .ogg files and .wavs, but that you need to have your own MP3 codec
installed in order to play MP3s.

You have Windows Media Player, yes? If so is it a recent version?

I'd also recommend getting the free version of RealPlayer, that seems to be
able to handle most file formats.

Now I'm not so sure anymore :)

FWIW, I only have media player installed (version 9 or 10), and my (VBR)
mp3's work ok.

Yes - version 10.....

Remember I even converted an MP3 to OGG and placed it in the correct folder
(C:\My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\User Tracks), did a scan, still
did not play....

I'm a bit stumped... 8-(

Very strange - I did another conversion to OGG of one file and this time it
played from within GTA........

But I don't want to convert 3 gigs of MP3's to OGG...

Is this just a codec issue...... if it is a URL would be handy...........

I've installed Media player10, realplayer 10, quicktime 6.5.... still no
mojo......

Rockstar should have provided native MP3 support like "vice" did - and yes
I've emailed rockstar about this..........

It's likely a money issue for them. OGG can be freely incorporated in
their program, while mp3 decoding demands licensing costs for commercial
software. My guess is that all internal audio in the game is now OGG too,
instead of MP3 in previous versions (when OGG wasn't mature enough).
