users missing text in network print jobs

we did a domain upgrade from nt4.0 to windows 2000 domain this weekend.

our print server was already a windows 2000 server. We just disjoined and join to the new domain.

several users are reporting that their printouts are missing texts. Whether from email or office applications, their graphics and bars shows up but not text. even windows test page only the top portion shows up.

the printers were working BEFORE the domain upgrade. I deleted the printer, re-added it, re-shared it. Went on the trouble client's pc's and re-mapped it and still same problem.

however it gets strange now, when i print to a different printer its ok.

my help desk was printing a document ..the text was missing. I print the same document to the same printer and its ok. I print that same document from his account to another printer and its ok.

all print outs to locally shared deskjet printers are fine.

has anyone a solution for this..its driving me mad.

on the event viewer, the only errors i see on the print server is that it cannot contact the license manager server. says i'm 6 over for the cal license. Will the lack Client Access Licenses cause wierd printouts? I would imagine it would either let me print or not print..but not give me wierd printouts.

I've made a new print server (the old one is still active) for test purposes.

I installed only 1 printer. I put the jet direct admin on there.

Successful installation of printer. I only added our dept.'s printer which is the laserjet 5. Latest drivers i believe is already on the windows 2000 server cd.

I printed from my computer and eveything is ok.

I printed from my help desk's computer using his sign on. Same problem.

So now i know the problem is not on the print server.

I figure it must be something on the client. I've deleted the print drivers on his machine too. went to print manager / file / server properties. Deleted all print drivers from there.

re-added the printer and still nothing.

i need your help.

Strange part is that it works for another (admin?) user from the same
machine.

May be worthwhile to check out the user's permission to the printer, the
(server's) spool directory, local access to the spool directories, etc...

What happens if you make the user an admin? - (1. local admin; 2. domain
admin)

Roaming profiles in place?

If so, (on the client) you may want to delete the printer, delete the driver
and it's registry settings together with the Per user settings under the
User's Printers key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\
(back-up the key first, re-import if any issues)

Recreate the printer and see how it goes...

Cheers,
Dimce
