Good day, Just have a very niche question for a very specific situation.

Making a long story short:
  • Room flooded
    • roughly half an inch level
    • I'm sure a good chunk was absorbed by boxes and seeped into tiles (I was asleep when it was happening)
  • PC unharmed (it's on a desk) - this is unrelated to my question
  • Just a single box got damaged by rain water
    • I keep for warranty which is good as useless now
    • Rip 9 years worth of Seasonic warranty
  • I'm asking if submerging PSU cables in 70% GreenCross isopropyl alcohol is good enough to clean them, keep them in a functional state and get rid of that wet box smell.
    • Noting that I don't plan on using these cables until 1-2 years later, when I can afford upgrading to a 9070XT - so I have alot of time to spare for drying
    • I have Microfiber cloth, 70% Alcohol, Electrical contact cleaner

The insulation on any wire/cable is actually plastic, by that I mean that the cables will ned up being denatured as that's what Isopropyl does to plastic over time. I usually use a rag/microfiber clothe that's got a soapy water sprayed onto it, then wrap the clothe around the cable and drag it along the cables to snare any dirt or debris.

Mind you, the cables I mention are from PC's that need deep cleaning duties on them, although I've dealt with 3 from water damage in my life that had good results.

My vote is no to isopropyl alcohol, let alone soaking cables in it.

Just curious, what's the extent of the damage on your PSU? Pass on images of the cables and the PSU after hosting them on a site akin to Imgur.

The PSU is in my PC and 100% fine, just making sure the cables are prepped for when I get a 9070XT (Fully modular, I'm only using 1 PSU to PCI-E cable right now)
