Using Modem/Router Combo as WiFi AP

Hey, I have run into something I am considering an anomaly at this point and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to recreate this.

I was using a Netgear N300/C3000 modem router combo as a WiFi AP via a shared connection on my PC.

I had connected ethernet into the LAN port on my PC then the other end into LAN port 1 of the Netgear combo and shared the internet connection from PC to the LAN port. Afterwards I then disabled the DHCP server on the Modem/Router. This worked and I was able to connect to the internet through multiple devices on the AP and it was in use for about 24 hours.

So the next day I wanted to change the WiFi password and found I couldn't access the Router settings anymore. I had realized my mistake after doing research and decided I would just reset the Modem/Router to factory default and do it over again. Well I reset it and regained access to the settings then set up the SSID and Password the way I wanted. I then disabled the DHCP server again and now I can't connect to the AP with anything. I can't obtain an IP address. I've tried resetting and doing it over and over but nothing is working like it did the first time. Looking through things on the internet I have found that this is the way that in fact should perform. What I don't understand is why it worked the first time.

If anyone can help me out here and tell me its not going to work again and it was fluke or knows of a way to get it to work as it had the first day I would greatly appreciate the feedback.

that's usually an IP conflict , the way you solve it is to set your access point's default gateway adress to something other than 192.168.1.1 , something like .. 192,168.5.2 .. or whatever that solves the IP conflict
