Question Using my 2 free ram slots

Hello, I am having a ram nightmare! I have looked through dozens of "fixes" but none have worked so far.
I have1600 2x4 hyper genesis ram and wanted to add more.
Brought 2x 4 hyper genesis 1866 hoping to just pop them straight in at the slower speed.
Putting them in the free slots the machine wouldn't boot, switching them to the previously filled slots and moving original ram to the free slots it now boots but the extra ram has gone to hardware reserved.

I have tryed to change things on BIOS to no avail.
I have tryed the other fixes often mentioned changing advanced setting but no luck.
Can someone please help me!

There are 1000s of threads with all sorts of mixed results when users tried to install non-matching memory.

As already mentioned, you have better options. Memory is sold in pairs/sets for a reason.

If you have your memory set to anything other than default/auto in your BIOS, you should change to that if you insist on trying to get these pairs to work together. You also need to keep the pairs installed in their proper corresponding slots. You may be able to get them to run at 1333.

For optimal performance, a matched pair of 2x8 or 2x16 would do better. Using all four slots can actually degrade performance a bit and could require some voltage tweaking. Really depends on the components in play.

List specs of your system.
Mainly interested in motherboard and cpu.

I'd just get 2x 8GB modules instead and remove 4GB modules.
