Hi all,

I have a HP LA1956x monitor with a recommended resolution of 1280x1024 @60hz. When i use these settings in Win7, the image is not correctly displayed. There are 2 black strips on the screen, left and right, of unused monitor space. i tried factory reset of the screen. It was displaying correct before, but after using autoadjust on the screens menu, it went wrong. So drivers should be OK. using other resolutions only gives more unused areas of the screen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's because of the monitor. A 5:4 ratio is not standard -- for example, lower resolutions (800x600, 640x480) use a 4:3 ratio (identical to older TV formats), while most widescreen resolutions (1280x720) use a 16:9 ratio.

Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot that can be done with that monitor due to its odd aspect ratio. However, you can probably find a 20-22" widescreen that will get you 1600x900 or even 1080p resolution for $150USD or less.
