Hey guys, I pulled an old 1TB Samsung ST1000LM024 out of a laptop and was wondering if it would be possible to convert it to an external one via an enclosure such as the Orico 2588US3.

My only concern here is that the USB 3 slot on my Lenovo Y510P laptop may not provide enough power to run the HDD, since it's not as efficient as the newer SSDs.

Any input would be appreciated.

Shouldn't be any problem. We have one of those Orico devices which we use primarily with this or that SSD as the external drive, however, I do recall we used that USB external device with a 750 GB HDD and experienced no problems. The specs indicate it will support drives up to 2 TB so you should be fine I would think.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I wanted to wait until my enclosure was delivered. As you and ArtPog predicted, the enclosure works well and I haven't had any compatibility issues yet. I wish I could pick both your answers as solutions.

Thanks again guys, you put my mind at ease!
