I am completely ignorant about powershell
but an ASUS driver has to be installed with powershell
windows 10 operating system

Download - done
Click to run powershell as admin done
NOW WHAT?

THIS IS WHAT POWERSHELL window says: PS C:\Users\cance\Desktop\touchpad\Touchpad>

THIS IS WHAT THE INSTALLSTEP.txt says: Input .\Install_PTP.bat

PLEASE type exactly what I need type in after the POWERSHELL PROMPT to get this installed...
I have tried a bunch of things and googled and searched and went to asus whose instructions were even more confusing
for someone completely ignorant about powershell

any help appreciated

Thank you for the reply....

I am trying to instal an Asus Driver for my laptop's touchpad that stopped working and disappeared from Device Manager (checked to see if hidden, nope gone). Googled and said installing the driver should make it reappear

Downloaded from asus the driver package (zipped)

I can get to the powershell window as admin (as per instructions below)
but I don't know what to enter
to install

This is what the Powershell Window says:
PS C:\Users\cance\Desktop\touchpad\Touchpad>
(touchpad is just the name of the file)

These are the instructions:
Step by step
  1. Extract the drivers package and get into the folder
  2. Click the File option from the upper left corner of the driver package folder
  3. Move the cursor to the Open Windows PowerShell option
  4. Select Open Windows PowerShell as administrator option
  5. Select Yes, Allow this app to make changes to your device.
  6. Input .\Install_PTP.bat
  7. Press Enter key to start drivers installation until return to next command line.
  8. After install successfully, please restart.

I am still confused, could you just show me how the command line would look in powershell IF the instructions were acurate?

Example: is this how it should look
PS C:\Users\cance\Desktop\touchpad\Touchpad>Input .\Install_PTP.bat

what model laptop is it?

it seems strange you need to load them via powershell. That isn't how drivers normally install.
I can't show you as I don't have the same PC. I am not going to try to install Asus drivers on a Gigabyte motherboard.

Did you disable the touchpad in the BIOS? See if it’s enable there

Suddenly my touchpad stopped working...I did find it HIDDEN in device manager as "not connected"...I was told to uninstall and reinstall the driver to reconnect it...when I uninstalled the driver IT COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!!
Then it was suggested I install the driver from ASUS website
and much to my confusion it was this powershell install

so not having gone into bios ever I don't see how that could be involved....but I really don't know

Based on what you wrote before I would say it should look like this:
PS C:\Users\cance\Desktop\touchpad\Touchpad>.\Install_PTP.bat

However if touchpad is not appearing in Device Manager then the install will probably fail anyway.

hmmm I was told installing the driver would reconnect it...
but I can't get that install to even run to find out...

Yes: drivers can be installed using Powershell.

FYI - Reference only:

https://alainqtec.com/blog/install-windows-drivers-using-powershell

However, as has been mentioned you should not need to use Powershell.

So do not use Powershell.

My thought is that the source driver website may not really be really be an Asus website.

Website may have appeared only because "Asus" was somewhere to be found by your search engine.

Go back to the website - find the URL. Be sure that the website is indeed Asus.

From your original link, when you're in powershell......
You would input this text .\Install_PTP.bat

thanks it gives me an error message that it is not a recognized cmnd
Have no idea what to do now.
Contacted ASUS but they sent me instructions that do not pertain to this situation

It stinks not to have the touchpad working

I wonder if its a hardware fault. Would maybe explain why it disappeared.
You could run Ubuntu off the USB and see if it can find touchpad, at least tell us if its a hardware problem - https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/try-ubuntu-before-you-install#1-getting-started

but hey if it could happen once....
