Using Wifi router as AP/switch

Sorry if this has been discussed thoroughly, I search through some threads talking a bit about it, but couldn't quite find a clear answer.

I'm trying to plan my network rebuild in preparations for finishing my basement. Currently I'm going from my cable modem to my ASUS Wifi router, and using it as the main AP/DHCP Server/Router. What I'd like to do is get a dedicated wired router, go from that to a 24 port gig switch, then from that out to all the wired devices, and to the current Wifi router, making it just an access point. I can do all this no problem, making sure to turn off the DHCP routing on the Wifi, and putting it in AP mode, but I also want to make sure my wireless AP will also be able to act as a switch so that I can hard wire stuff to it, as it will be sitting near the TV and game consoles and stuff, which I'd prefer all be hard wired. Just wondering if this is possible, or if I'm going to have to pull of some networking vudu to accomplish it.

With the settings you mentioned, it will work on wired just aswell as on wireless. You don't need to do anything else.
Just make sure you connect everything to the AP's LAN ports(including the switch) and leave the WAN port empty.

Perfect, that's exactly what I was wondering. I suspected as much, but needed some confirmation. Wasn't sure if there was some other setting I'd need to change. Thanks!
