UT too fast with Win XP

A friend of mine upgraded from an older computer running Win 98 to a more
recent model running with Win XP. He can now play UT 2K4 smoothly with all
graphic options at highest definition but I still like to play the old UT.
The problem is, it runs much too fast under his new configuration. Is there
a way to solve this problem ? I hope I'm not being too vague.

Thanks

turn the gamespeed down ;op

It sounds like somebody might have bumped the gamespeed slider without
realizing it. xp doesn't make the game run anyfaster.

That can happen on laptops that use power throttling. It fools the
game into thinking the processor is much slower than it actually is.
I understand that some of the newer desktops are using a similar
technique to address the monstrous volume of heat produced by today's
chips. If you can find a "speed step" or other such beast on the
machine, try turning it off to see if it helps.

I have an ATI 9800 Pro vid card and I see strange things to UT if the
framerate is not capped. I use the UTGLR opengl lib and add in the
frameratelimit setting to cap framerates below 100. When running UT,
turn on the frame rate monitor and look at your frame rates, if they
are in excess of 200, the game can get to doing some odd things, like
running at 2x or 3x speed down the map (note this is in a local game).
If playing online and your framerates are too hi you will experience
other anomalies, like the inability to hit opponents and choppy play.

This is probably a vsync issue. He'll want to turn it on, in his video card
driver settings.

Actually, I noted every answer from the forum people and forwarded it to my
friend. Listening to one of them, he downloaded a fix for OpenGL (I also
lowered the minimum desired framerate, but I think the fix solved most of
the problem), and it is now playable like before ! I can now go back to play
my good ol' UT, thank you guys (I do play a bit of UT 2k4 Onslaught too).
