I am looking at marking my graphics cards that I will sell.

I want to mark them with a UV marker pen. Does anyone have any experience of the best place to mark them?

Do UV pemanenty markers permanently remain on graphics card shroud plastic? Should I be concerned that the ink may in some way damage the card if marked at the wrong location?

A UV marker is not different really than like a sharpie. The best place to mark them? On a label thats attached because anything smooth or plastic can be wiped off. You could mark them on the PCB, unlikely it will get wiped off, won't hurt anything either.

Wondering why you would want to do this if you are selling them, what does it matter?

A crooked buyer can buy a good card and say it is defective requesting a refund.
Then the buyer returns a defective card(or even a box of rocks).
Delivery confirmation will prove that the buyer returned a box to you.
Ebay has no way of knowing about this and will side with the buyer in a dispute.
I have been scammed like this.

One can photograph the serial number which is hard to remove and replace exactly.
A few other hidden marks can identify the original card.

Most buyers are honest.
The best protection is to sell only to a buyer with a good history of feedback.

Thank you for this response.

A mark like this is usually for property that you own so that the police can send it back to you if it is stolen.

In my case selling products to people I don't know can be risky. There are many different scams that are conducted on auction sites and free ad sites etc. e.g. They will purchase the card from the seller and they will have an identical card which is broken already. They will then send you back the broken card and demand a refund, keeping the card that you sent them.

It can sometimes be enough to note down the serial number of the card you are selling. But if they switch the stickers then you are in trouble. For that reason I have photographed the position of the serial number sticker, any minor scratches and blemishes on the card. I also intend to use the UV pen as well. These should make it possible to uniquely identify the card.

Ah ok makes sense didn't think of that I would put UV marks on the serial sticker and then right on the PCB. Its not going to hurt anything.
