I have a armada notebook model V300 that has a xircom realport cardbus
ethernet 10/100 card.
I can not get the card to use dhcp provided my my router on my home network.
The card has an autoconfigured IP address that I can not seem to get rid of.
I would really appreciate any and all comments or suggestions as to how to
get this machine to connect to my LAN
Thanks in advance

Two quick items, have you checked the TCP/IP settings and does it have a
software firewall set-up by default?

The TCP/IP is set to DHCP in the tcp/ip properties whether the Xircom
realport cardbus
ethernet 10/100 card is connected to the laptop or not. However, the
autoconfigured address in the Xircom realport cardbus
ethernet 10/100 card will be autoconfigured to and address that is not in
the address range of my router. One more thing ... when the machine is
booted with the network cable connected to the netword card, two beeps occur
prior to the windows start. The two beeps are not present when the network
cable is not plugged in.
I do not have the manual that came with the laptop and haven't been able to
find one online as of this writing.
I also have gotten in to the bios/setup to determine if there was something
prior to the operating system boot that was happening that was the source of
this problem and discovered nothing.
Thanks again and any and all help is very much appreciated.

Perhaps HH can offer some guidance here. Pending his comments, have you
checked the resources listed in the Compaq FAQ posted here weekly?

Sorry,
This one stumps me. My only experience dealing with notebook PC card
Ethernet was with my Presario 12XL300. I used a Xircom card, but it worked
without a hitch with my LinkSys cable/DSL router. I didn't have to configure
anything with the PC card or router.

Same experience her on a couple of similar systems. Only time there
have been issues like this is with default settings on the firewall or
TCP/IP issues. Last one I set up was my sons and it connect through a
wireless LAN card to a D-Link router. Firewall was on by default in XP.

I use a realport on my old Armada 1592dmt/win98se. You should be able to
manually assign the card's IP address (cuts down on the boot time too). What
OS are you using? I'm also thinking you may have a problem w/ your cardbus
drivers. I think you should get the two beeps whenever a card starts or
stops.
