Did someone play around with this gadget: VAC (for Voice Activated
Commands)?

It's free, I found it easy to use and it makes FS9 life much easier. Of
course you can use it for other sims/games as well.

You find it here http://mysite.verizon.net/res19wz2/VAC/vacsys.htm or here

Only be carefull when assigning short commands, like "gear". I got in
trouble when I asked my spouse for another "beer" close to touch down 😉

Cheers,

Heiko

LOL - yeah, I can see that being a problem.

I downloaded and installed it, and configured it for IL2 - it seems to work
reasonably well. But you want to make sure you don't go overkill on it,
because it can actually take more effort to say a phrase slowly enough so
that the app will recognize your input than it does just to his a KB key. I
only use it for rudimentary things that I want quick access to without
having to take my hands off the controls at critical moments - gear up/down,
flaps, etc. And I also use it for wingman commands in single player mode.
A good starting template for wingman commands is available at
http://mysite.verizon.net/res19wz2/VAC/download/IL2_AEP_PF.zip.

It may also be used in other programs such as MS Word for "Bold", etc.

I have to still try it for PF or LOMAC. In FS9 I find it usefull for
calling for the different panels, the ATC and, as you said, other commands
that are annoying to find on the keybord. I also find it boring but helpful
to use the "Speech Training" and to lower the microphone's volume to filter
out background noise (cheerful children, playing dog, dishwashing wife,
etc.)

Cheers,

Heiko

Not a lot gained there, though - I usually already have my fingers on the KB
when typing in Word, so "CtrlB" is not that much of a stretch. ;-)
