I've been saying this for years: Valve is planning to merge the Half -Life and Portal game worlds. They will remain separate game franchises, but the story lines will intersect. Indeed, you can find obvious references to Black Mesa in the portal games. One reason for the delay is that Valve needed to release Portal 2 before the Half-Life saga could continue, in order to establish a better back story for the Portal series.

I can't wait for Episode 3, then I'll install the latest version of Cinematic Mod to greatly increase the graphics quality of HL2, Episode 1&2&3! Valve doesn't use very high quality textures, don't know why. Cinematic Mod is amazing though.

We had a boy yesterday.

Told my wife we should call him Gordon Freeman xxxxxx.

She asked why, I showed her.

Now I pay child support.

I would much rather have HL3 on an entirely new and groundbreaking engine then on source. So here is to hoping it is episode 3 or there is a super secrete new engine over at Valve.

[citation][nom]jetjl[/nom]Would be hilarious if Valve called it Half Life 2: episode 2 -II or something equally retarded. At least valve has a problem with numbers greater than two. The Final Fantasy series are up to Final Fantasy XII-2 Anyways Valve did release something with a 3 on it a while ago, Portal 2: Songs to Test by Album. So don't get all surprised because that boat left. Valve doesn't have to update the Source engine, sure they are using Dx9, but hey these games look amazing on our Modern Gaming Computers and even if we don't own high end gaming computer we can still run these games flawlessly. Though these updates that break games should stop, especially updates that say that the update fixes things but actually breaks even more things.[/citation]
DirectX 9.0c is ANCIENT by modern standards. Games are going to be using DirectX 10 or 11 as the minimum API next generation. The Source engine is already been used to its full potential and VALVe needs to give it an overhaul with DirectX 10 and 11 , better graphics, and better physics for the next Half-Life game. Although I agree with you about the updates.

This website is funny. The first few comments always get a bunch of thumbs up, and then it just gradually declines after that.

Please be true, HL2, the best straight forward FPS game ever, but I want Episode 3 first, maybe this is going to be Episode 3. I heard it was going to be really big (Full game size) finish to the HL franchise, go out with a bang, so to say. There needs to be some pay back for those floating blob bastards and I want to exact it on their asses.

They don't look bad on the PC at all and their game engine is one of the most stable ones I have ever used besides Doom3 that never crashed either, unlike SkyRim, Fallout3, yes I'm pointing at you Bethesda, great games but buggy as hell.

[citation][nom]Pocketdrummer[/nom]I guess the only real disappointment is that Valve will likely release HL3 or HL2:Ep3 on the insanely dated source engine.Yes, I know L4D and L4D2 were great, but it's time for a new engine already! I'm hoping this is why it's taken them so long, but I really doubt it.[/citation]

Perhaps thats what the 5 year wait has been?
