I don't think it will be L4D3 or Portal 3. For one, L4D3 would be an unpleasant surprise (and many would argue not a surprise if they continue with COD regularity). I bought both 1 and 2 and I do think 2 was worth (well, worth the $23 I got it for) it but it still made me pissed because they could have easily done the same with 1.

Portal 3 would indeed be a surprise but a dumb one. Portal 2 isn't out yet and announcing a third sequel before the second sequel comes out would be retarded. I still think Portal's uniqueness got old really really quickly.

Also, HL2:EP3 can't be it since it wouldn't be a short sequel since it has been worked on and off for years.

I think Valve is starting to trip balls. They will lose the loyalty they have built up over the years if they keeps bringing out quick crap.

[citation][nom]gogogadgetliver[/nom]No the gripe was that L4D players immediately got their gaming communities fractured with L4D2 released and were "forced" to pay another $50 if they wanted to keep playing with the same crowds. Some of us gave them the middle finger then switched over to "Killing Floor" which turned out to be an awesome choice. There have been several FREE expansions from Tripwire who apparently knows how to treat customers.Valve are kinda turning into d1cks.[/citation]
Killing Floor is an OK game, but nowhere close to L4D2
Sounds like you cut your nose off to spite your own face
BTW
No one "forces" you to buy a game

[citation][nom]kikireeki[/nom]Quick Sequel = lazy programmers.[/citation]
How is doing something good and fast an indication of laziness if beyond me. My guess is that you don't know anything about software development.

Also hasn't played it either, or he would know

[citation][nom]hellwig[/nom]How can Valve expect us to buy that a Quick Sequel is worth the extra money of a full release, when it's been how long since they released Half-Life 2, Episode 2? Sure, they threw-out the Lost Coast teaser, 30 seconds of game play, whooptie doo!. I suppose there's a lot less story line that goes into L4D2, but that's what made it even harder to pay full-price for. New weapons, monsters, and scenery on the same engine does not a full-release make.I would have paid $15-$20 when L4D2 first came out if it had been an add-on to L4D. Instead I waited until it was $10 during their 4th of July sale. If they release L4D3 this year (or Q1 2011), I'll just wait again.[/citation]
Pretty much what I do, eventually everything on steam goes on sale for a few days as long as you can wait for it (although for l4d2 I waited until black friday and picked it up for 25 or 30 - I forget).

the thing is portal 3 is portal 2

the people who designed portal made a crap half life mod that used dragon mouths as portals. so portal 2 is really thee 3rd portal

that's like saying left 4 dead 2 is half life episode 3, cause they're both made by valve. ur logic fail, they are different games, designed by the same people

I myself hope that its alien swarm 2. We don't need another l4d spin off this soon. Please let one of these other announcements be "we got new engine, moar physikz puzzles!" I really want the source enging to get replaced. It, albeit a great engine, is showing its age. Especially considering the games run better when you force it on 2 cores or less.

I know VALVe has been kinda a tease lately but I have always been a fan of their games, and I like what they develop and Steam. So whatever they plan to release a quick sequal to and whatever thier BIG THREE are I will be waiting for with eagar ears.

I dont understand why everyone keeps saying HL3??? Come'on People, Think! Were not goin to get anything like that until long after HL2:EP3 is out, just common sence.

And for all the L4D & L4D2 people that are not happy, like others said nobody forced you to buy the games and if you just hold out a few months you can get them for dirt cheap. I for one enjoyed them both and got them dirt cheap, my only gripe is that I would like a lot more story-line in the game than just going from level to level without much continuity.

@ gm0n3y

NS2 is in the works by UWE, probably a release within a year.

I want to see L4D3, just for the humor. Get people to buy the game quick before waiting on a sale so they will have people to play with 😛

Yeah, the whole L4D -> L4D2 was kinda quick in a negative way. But the TF2 is amazingly fantastic. The amount they have put into that game more than justified the full priced cost. Not so much with the L4D series.

At any rate, I hope it's not L4D3. But it's the only thing I can think of that would be a "quick release" serial, considering the other games have been out for years and years.

I used to like valve, team fortress 2 is a perfect example of a game done WELL, it could have taken less time but then it wouldn't have been almost perfect. now they seem to be taking an Activision action plan less quality more quantity.

Hate on Valve (and Blizzard) all you want but the bottom line is they makes quality games. Even if they're not the fastest, they usually make sure to release polished, solid products and the bigger releases usually bring something new to the table. HL2 was awesome when it came out. It's been a long time coming, but I'm sure it will be worth it when it arrives.

[citation][nom]porksmuggler[/nom]Ask yourself, whens the last time Valve had a full release? You know one with single and multiplayer, that takes more than a few hours to play through before you're hopping on an online match./Half-Life 2 /2004[/citation]

It depends on what you consider a full release. But by your definition WoW, GW and any other MMORPG cannot be considered a full release since it is only multiplayer.

TF2 was a full release but was made to be a multiplayer only game and was worth much more than the cheap price in the OB. Portal was a small release but the content, gameplay and unique story telling made it worth well more as well.

L4D/L4D2 were made as a co-op with the option of sinlge player although it was meant to be played with friends.

[citation][nom]gogogadgetliver[/nom]Yes, good point. TF2 has been a good example. L4D = d1cksandwich. Heck I felt ripped off even before L4D2. It was not worth full AAA price.[/citation]

I think it all depends on how you measure worth. I have well over 200 hours in L4D and L4D2 as well (let not mention my near 1K hours in TF2). Both of them felt well worth the game price. I have yet to find one other game that I have played nearly as much, maybe Oblivion (100 hours) but that was to complete everything you could do.

Another game was Batman AA. Was very short but well worth the price due to the excellent choices of known voices (kevin Conroy & Mark Hamil), great art direction and fun gameplay. L4D and L4D2 both have the same setup as Batman AA.

But as I said, thats my view. I think a game is worth it if I keep playing it. I have played HL2 about 20 times through and will probably play it again.
