Got a link to a VBS1 Review up at http://www.idfsquad.com/

Looks like it has some serious added functionality for those who like more
of a military experience in their OFP. The after-action review feature
looks really cool! Now you can play back your missions and keep track of
individual soldiers and their performance moment by moment!

Just my opinion but NEVER (and I mean NEVER) trust a review from a site that
has a PAY CLICK LINK to the product they are reviewing.

Its called a conflict of interest. Kinda reminds me of the review for the
original OFP on operation flashpoint network, done by Dave Legatti
(spelling??) who is of course Seventh, who is an employee of BIS.

the review was done by an australian gaming site that has no relations
to BIS or VBS1.

Good and valid opinion, and I agree with you.

In this instance, they aren't interested in an impartial "gaming" review -
since VBS isn't a game. You won't see VBS demos on the gaming magazine
coverdisks, nor will you see it at E3.

You'll only see it on websites of already die-hard ofp fans. Many of whom
have clickthroughs to help pay for their costs.

I just wish all this chat about VBS would end (come on guys, it's an
incremental upgrade at best) and OFP2/VBS2 would start.

Excellant points. I mean how many people are actually going to buy this, a
handfull at best. AND as you said it really ain't much of an upgrade beyond
OFP, you would be better off spending your money on a top of the line video
card , memory or CPU.

Doing both too.

well as it says somewhere (cant remember exactly where) but its not
designed to be for gamers. if it was then it would be cheaper and
probably be an addon for ofp. if uve got the money thought then im
sure there r people who can buy VBS1 with all the addons and a total
pc upgrade.

Doing neither. Getting big tax bills, and changing offices, accountants,
contracts, and I have a load of marketing material to buy.

Although it's on my "wish list"

The relationship is the fact they have a PAY TO CLICK ad on their site where
you can go to buy it, Do you think they aren't getting some money for this.
Look at the link.

Um.... No?

We are posting in the same thread, as child messages from your original
message relating to the reviewer/publisher relationship - and we directly
responded to it.

Hope the below helps.

I wasn't referring to you.

I was referring to the person who claimed there was no relationship between
that review site and BIS/OFP/VBS1

I hope so but given the pricing level it might be a while before a 'critical
mass' of VBS1 gamers and/or MP servers builds up.
In particular at a cost of ~US$650 for the game and the whole set of public
addons I guess a number of players may just get the VBS1 core and maybe the
updated OFP islands.
Personally I've ordered the whole set and I'm not bothered if it turns out
to be a single player experience for a while as I'm quite happy to tinker
with all the addons and try out some mission creation.

They don't get money for just creating a site, they get money when someone
click on the AD on their site, and goes to the vbs1 purchase site. It is the
nature of PAY TO CLICK , this also creates a relationship between the review
site and the product owner site. This relationship is what is known as a
conflict of interest. It is similar (though not exactly the same) as what
happened in the original OFP days, when operationflashpoint.network site did
a preview of the game. At the time no one (well very few did) knew that the
person who created the preview (and btw , he assigned scores) was in fact
Seventh and was in fact an employee of the company. remember Seventh was one
of the people who created the music for OFP.

if you read your post above, you made the statement "the review was done by
an australian gaming site that has no relations to BIS or VBS1"

I was simply pointing out that this wasn't the case and the relationship
that exists creates a very basic COI.

The fact they may or may not make any money doesn't matter. Do you really
think that they would say that the product is absolute garbage (assuming
they he actually though that) when he has a link on his site that pays him
for people to click it.

Some of those Hunter-Killer teams from Afghanistan might come after you if
you do.
