Hi all

I just recently changed monitors. My first monitor has a DVI connector and it a decent boot up time of just under 30 seconds with a hybrid hardrive. However, I was given two separate monitors for work. They work on my laptop ok without any issues. But, I noticed even if I just plug in my PC into either monitors into the HDMI or Displayport, theres a huge delay of just under 3 minutes.
Not sure what is causing this? All my setting in my bios are fairly good and I have fast boot enabled. Just sounds weird it would take soo long to now load with a digital cable?

The slow boot up happens just after the bios. So once it goes past the bios screen, theres a black screen. And then after those 3 minutes, it goes into the Windows login screen.

Any suggestions? Even updated the graphics card drivers, update the drivers on the motherboard bios, update the drivers on the motherboard chipset. The bios on the graphics card doesnt seem that it needs any updates on it.

Heres my rig setup;

Windows 10 - 64bit
Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming Intel Z370 (Socket 1151)
Intel Core i7-8700K
Gigabyte GTX 1080 TURBO OC
Seagate ST2000DX002 Firecuda 2TB
Corsair HX850 850

I think I find the culprit;

The boot delay seems to be caused by the system making time loading your user profile;

256s just to load your user profile! it's huge.

And what causes the system taking too long to load your profile, is the temporary folder, that seems to be large or containing bad files Windows struggle to read;

To fix your problem, you need to empty the temporary folder of your profile (C:\Users\YourUseranme\AppData\Local\Temp\).

If disabling the fast startup does not solve the problem, you need to take a boot trace Windows Performance Recorder. it will give us more details on what happens during the boot process and hopefully we can identify the culprit;

1. Download and Install Windows Performance Toolkit https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install . Choose the package corresponding to your Windows version.
2. Just install the "Windows Performance Toolkit" package.
3. Record a trace using Windows Performance Recorder using these options: View: https://imgur.com/gWgaWKs

4. Compress the ".ETL" file and the".NGENPDB" folder (very important)
5. Share the trace through any sharing platform.

@zinoub Thanks for that. I did try to disable fastboot but still the same issue.

Trying to look for a way to share that file but in the mean time, I have managed to get a screenshot of the boot. And the cause of it. Something called winlogon.exe is. Not sure why its causing it to slow my PC down badly.

winlogon.exe is the process that displays the de welcome screen and handles your login session.

But I can't tell you what's this process is doing without looking at the boot trace.

Can you share the boot trace over transfernow.net or wetransfer.com sharing platforms ?

Thanks zinoub for the analysis. Is it ok to delete all the files in that folder? As there were a lot of sub folders in that folder. The only two folders that I saw that holds a lot of files where: Packages 3.41gb and temp 2gb, are these ok to delete? I used ccleaner and windows disk clean with and used the "clean up system files" But both of those, did some clean up but didnt really get most of those files.

It's safe to delete those subfolders. All that's in the Temp folder is created by programs and applications for temporary usage.
When this Temp folder grows substantially it can lead to this kind of issue.

You can do a backup of this folder, if you wish, for more peace of mind :)

***
Important: delete only what's inside the Temp folder. Do not delete the Temp folder itself!!
