Hi everyone,

System specs :
CPU : i5 10400
GPU : switched from GTX 1060 3GB to rx 6600 8GB
MOBO : Gigabytye Aorus B560M ELITE
PSU : switch from a random 500w old PSU to 550W MSI PSU
Ram : 16gb 2x8 Corsair vengeance pro rgb 3600mhz

I decided to switch from my old GTX 1060 3GB to a new RX 6600. I switched them initially and forgot to do a DDU (I’m stupid, I know), and I installed the new gpu into the same PCIE slot as my old gpu. Booted perfectly, using HDMI port on the GPU. Installed new AMD drivers, and everything was registering. Decided to do a quick restart, and a windows update started. Got to 100%, and black screened for about 20 mins, then I turned it off and on again. No post and troubleshooting light switching from CPU to DRAM periodically, whilst turning on and off. Removed a ram stick, and then stuck on VGA light.
What I’ve tried:

Using different RAM kit with multiple configurations.
Changed PSU from my 8 year old PSU to a new one
Reset CMOS about 5 times now
Updated BIOS using a usb

I can get it to boot and post, if I plug the HDMI cable into the motherboard. This way I’m using intel graphics, and the card isn’t recognised in the bios etc.
I can also get it to boot by using my second PCIE slot (PCIE X4, so slower I think) and it all works fine with no red troubleshooting lights.
I think my first PCIE slot might be broken somehow but I really don’t know. If anyone has any suggestions, I will be really happy. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

MSI is the brand of the unit while 550W is the advertised wattage of the unit. What is the model of the unit?

Updated BIOS using a usb
You shouldn't need to update the BIOS if you merely swapped the GPU over though did you make sure that the board wasn't scratched with your new GPU's expansion bracket? What BIOS version are you on at this moment of time?

Reset CMOS about 5 times now
If you must clear the CMOS, disconnect from the wall and display, then remove the CMOS battery. Press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain any residual power and replace the CMOS after 30mins.

Thank you for the welcome! I’m new to some of this troubleshooting stuff, so bear with me!
My new PSU is an MSI MAG A550BN. Someone suggested it to me, and I also read online that it’s a fairly good budget PSU as I don’t have a lot of money to spend on this PC (hence buying a used Rx 6600)

Here are some images of the PCIE slot in question, I can’t see anything off but I don’t know what to look for to be honest. If you need anymore angles of it, please let me know! There’s also a very blurry image here of the GPU inside the PCIE slot, I was wondering if that mounting looked all correct too.

I’m on the latest bios version available. I read online that a bios update may be a good suggestion, so I did one just incase. I can confirm that the updated bios does work.

I also followed the same steps with resetting CMOS, removing plug and turning PSU off. Holding down power button for about 30 sec, removing battery for 30 sec then replacing.

Also I did remove all previous drivers when I managed to gain access to the PC via the motherboard HDMI slot, using DDU software.

Thanks!
