But, motherboards can support VGA with additional controllers, so check the motherboard specs to see if it will support VGA. DVI is still supported.

No, because DVI-D is digital only (VGA is analogue). You'd need a DVI-I socket wit a DVI-VGA adaptor, or a VGA socket on the board.
