video card or monitor?

I'm curious as to if there is such thing as a gaming monitor, cause at lower resolutions, i get pretty crappy refresh rates(only while in games...like 1280x1024 is like 65hz, and 1600x1280 is like 68hz) but at lower resolutions in games i get like 60hz..

I have a GeForce3
monitor NEC multisync 950+

it may be my monitor, as it is currently defective(has permanent "dead" lines and a "dead" pixel(dead = doesn't display in that area))

That's ironic, usually higher resolutions produce LOWER refresh rates.

HOw is the refresh rate set? Optimal or Adapter default?

Try changing manually, just don't go beyond your monitor specs or you could blow it...

Make sure that your monitor is installed correctly.

Also, suposedly that is a problem in Windows XP Direct X... not sure about that one personaly though.

Just get an LCD monitor with DVI--picture totally kicks a$$!!!!

try this go to display properties pick settings click on advance tag or radio button then go to adapter, change refresh rate to highest setting, it is ok because moitor and graphics drives will allow you to use settings that are listed if any problems occure go to next lowest setting try to keep above 75
