Video card problems, Geforce EVGA 2gb GT 610 is saying not compatible with hardware

I have a HP pav desktop with windows 8.1 and AMD A8-6500 quad core 3.5 ghz with radeon HD . 8 gb ram and I think 300 watts of power supply, The problem is when I start up my computer with the video card in it and hooked up to the VGA cord The computer beeps and the screen is black and I open up the side and the fans are running and so is the video card fan. can some help me with this problem?

Did you plug the VGA cable into the onboard, or the videocard?

Sounds like it's booting, you are just not getting any image on the monitor. You may need to boot with the onboard video and disable it in the BIOS, or set the video to boot from PCIe first.

Your computer probably isn't detecting the GT610 because it maybe so old that the bios is not automatically switching to PCIE card as a primary display.

So use VGA on your on-board gfx and go to your bios and select PCIE adapter as primary. Try that. If it still doesn't work after bios, then your last resort is to go into windows display settings and force the adapter change to your GT610.

If that doesn't even work, then sorry, you need an upgrade.

Not A8, old as in his video card. GT610 is extremely old and newer bios don't often work with old hardware.

WTF are you talking about? I can toss a PCI 6600GT in my computer (NOT PCI Express, a 10 year old PCI card) and it will detect the card and boot just fine.

That system runs an APU and the APU's onboard video needs to be disabled. The VGA cable also needs to be attached to the videocard and not the motherboard*.

To be honest, the 610 will probably give you equal or less performance than the onboard on the A8 chip and isn't worth troubleshooting.

Before you go raging, your comment doesn't make any sense at all when you said "the vga cable needs to be attached to the videocard and not the monitor". Like really VGA needs to be attached to both the video card and monitor. You should have said VGA on video card not the motherboard.

Some hardware made in 2012 may not always be compatible with the newer motherboards, drivers, bios or OS, that is why there is something called bios update to increase compatibility. This is true of my motherboard and its on-board sound drivers that wasn't compatible with windows 8 but works for windows 7.

He is obviously having issues with his GT 610 trying to get it to work with the APU. You read the title? It said the GT 610 isn't compatible hardware. This may not be his motherboard bios or the fact of APU, it could be the fact Nvidia never released a driver update for it to make it compatible with windows 8.1. Somewhere in his computer is obviously rejecting the GT 610.

Windows 8.1 is problematic OS. I know this because AMD has 2 separate drivers for all their video cards one for windows 8/7 and the other for windows 8.1.

Well, point #1 was a spell check error, I meant motherboard.

Everything else, I ignored, since this is a conversation about the OP's issue and you have no idea what you are talking about. I've installed Windows 7 on a Pentium III system, and I own an AMD APU rig, and everything you said is completely false. 8.1 is an excellent operating system, I use it on two separate computers.

These are generic onboard videocard issues, and it has nothing to do with the age of the hardware. It's purely a bios configuration change that will take two seconds. 2012 isn't old, the 6XX series cards are not old at all, they are actually on par with the CPU in age. Barely a year apart, June 2013.

I changed in the BIOS and stopped working my video onboard, so I changed to my new off board GT 610 and it worked....So I could install the driver and it was installed well...thanks!

Check in your BIOS which graphics adapter is selected. As it is a pre-configurated system it may have the onboard adapter selected by default. Look for that option and change it to PCI-Ex or automatic.
