Video not passing through amp

Hi, I'm pulling my hair out over this. So I want to run my PC (Win 10) through HDMI, through my Denon AVR-1912 amp and from there to my TV. It used to work fine, sometimes intermittent, but I got the video and 5.1. I've bought a new TV and now I've got problems with the video. When I turn the PC on I get the loading screen (Asus logo, telling me to press Del or F2 and a spinning wheel), then it goes blank and I get a message on the screen saying no video. I have plugged straight in to the TV and it works fine. Just not through the AMP. I have swapped cables with ones I know work, inputs on AMP I know work. Everything else runs fine (I also have Chromecast and PS4 running through the AMP). Any suggestions? My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670.

*Edit: I uninstalled all Nvidia drivers and restarted PC. The desktop came up through the amp at low res for about 1 minute then I think it re-enabled the Nvidia driver and I lost the video again

My guess its the hdmi handshake or the reciever. Can you set the avr to passthrough signal only?

If the tv is fine on it's own and tried various hdmi cables my guess the avr is not accepting your gpu driver. I wont say there's something wrong internally of the avr

What happens if you uninstall gpu drivers using display driver uninstaller and let windows load with no drivers, do you get a picture then?

Hi thanks for getting back to me.

I uninstalled the GPU drivers and the desktop loaded up through the amp at very low res. Then after about a minute the signal lost. I plugged back in to the TV and the NVIDIA drivers had re-enabled so I can only assume it's something with the driver. I have re-installed the latest driver but still no luck

It looks like it's trying to play something. Every now and then the 'no video' message disappears, the screen gets brighter like something is going to appear and on the front of the amp 'PCM' and 'DIG' appear, flash then the screen goes dark again and 'no video' message reappears

It might be driver related. Windows installs generic unless their version is too new for the avr as well its hard to say. Might need a firmware update for the avr but wouldn't go to that extent just yet.

Download displaydriver uninstaller
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Download an old driver for your gpu.

Once ddu is installed, boot to safemode and run ddu. There's an option to boot after uninstalling gpu drivers to prevent windows reinstalling drivers.

Try that method with an older driver. If it works, try again the same way with the latest driver, possibly just a driver conflict and nothing else over complicated.

Another suggestion is while the pc is turned on and connected to the avr, turn off both tv and avr and wait for a moment and turn them both on again. Try turning on tv first then avr 2nd or vice versa. Hdmi handshake can sometimes be sensitive but usually not really though.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. So I tried everything you said but still no good. I uninstalled the graphic drivers with DDU and rebooted through the AMP and got a picture. I then installed a previous driver from a year ago but then the screen blacked out. I cannot figure it out!

I might be able to.... have one sitting around prob not in the best condition. So I've just tried an old tv and that works through the amp. I can connect my pc direct to the new tv and that works. But The new tv doesn't work through the amp. Other inputs work through the amp to the new tv but the pc doesnt.

Renaming the hdmi input to pc on some tvs changed how it receives a pc's colour format, maybe it mght help.

Can change the format via pc too in display control panel to rgb or 444 chroma. Im not an expert in defining but something to try.

Hey. Sorry I think I was a bit confusing. This new tv has not worked at all. The old tv works playing the pc through the amp. The new tv does not and has never worked. The pc will play to the new tv direct but not through the amp. It works through the amp if I uninstall the Nvidia driver but not if it has any Nvidia driver installed. So there is a problem with the connection between my PC, The amp and the new tv

Thanks for that link. I tried what it suggested but no go.. Agh this is so frustrating! It sounds like there's a "handshake" problem when the PC is connected to my new tv through the amp but I cannot solve this.

It works if I connect the PC directly to the TV. If I go in to Nvidia control panel and click on 'View HDCP Status' with the PC connected directly to the TV it says "Your graphic card and display are HDCP compatible"

ok. So the PC is local to the tv. Does the av receiver have an on screen display projected to the tv? If it does, basically what I am interested to know is if when the tv displays "no input" and you were to turn up the volume if it is displayed on screen still.

Yeah it does. So if I connect the PC through the receiver I will still see the volume changes, I can go in to the receiver setup menu etc. The PC boot screen will show up on the TV but as soon as it goes to load in to windows I lose the connection

This isn't a fix but it might give us a little more info to what's happening. With the pc powered on, try unplugging the HDMI from it, and plug it back in. If you haven't, (but I am sure you have) Try cycling the power on and off at the TV and the receiver while leaving the pc on.

• When a non-standard video signal from a game machine or some other source is input, the video conversion function might not operate.

^^^ clipped from the user manual. I wonder if we are having a resolution issue.

After browsing the owners manual a little it would appear to me that when windows is booting its missing a handshake passed around the system. Just as boju was suggesting. If it works plugged straight to the tv like you said try this.

Plug the PC directly to the tv.
Plug a second monitor in and set it to mirror the first.
After your all set up power everything down.
Hook the tv back through the receiver while leaving the second monitor straight to the PC.
Fire the system back up and see what happens.
You should be able to have check and play with the PC settings at this point to see what the pc is doing.

Hey I tried removing the hdmi and plugging it back in, powering off the receiver and tv and back on and no good. Tried different inputs (cable and PS4) with their HDMI cables and no go

With the PC connected directly to the TV my resolution is currently 1080p, 1920x1080 @ 60hz. There's no specific PC input I have BD, DVD, SAT/CBL, GAME 1, GAME 2, V.AUX. I have a second monitor.... how do I connect it at the same time? My outputs on the PC are 1 x HDMI, 1 x DVI-I, 1 x DVI-D and 1 x displayport
