LoL, epic win for the marketing idiots that got paid to come up with this idea... i'm sure it'll attract a ton more 12 year old girls & bored housewives into using games for windows live, with the awesome cartoony looking avatar junk (i feel the need for a cartoon man wearing an evening dress & a top hat just for laughs)
as for the rest of us, we'll just carry on as normal, even if mircodick try to curtail all games that get installed into windows live games crap, we'll just carry on using a shortcut or executable to fire up our games directly rather than having anything to do with the recommended ms way. hell, even if ms get bitchy about it & try to force it, there's legions of peeps out there that will happily make exe cracks to get around any involvement with it :)

Well if MSFT screws up everything for windows then there will be a competitor that caters to the hardcore gamers there to soak us up. I am not worried about it, things always go to $hit and then something new and better arises.

Usually, I just want Apple to fail. Now Microsoft- this is terrible I don't think I have ever wanted them to fail before.
humphreybot- what's with all the hate- Steam is fantastic- fast loading and it has superb features not to mention I never have to use Daemon Tools or no-cds again.

I do not understeand anything over here .. EX. I bought dirt2 trough steam BUT to be able to play and save my game advances, I must log on or make a new account in microsoft xbox not even pc LOL !! in order to put the key and be able to play the game online. so it is the same %$#/$#.

If microsoft forces us to use this in windows 8 i'm not upgrading. not worth it.

Microsoft may have made directx but steam made the client to supply games for it. It will always stay that way. pc isn't like a console where it can be restricted. the reason it succeeds is because its not like mac and you can do whatever the hell you want. Microsoft, do this and you lose over 80% of your users. We use pc because its complex, because its fun that way. If you restrict us to things than you are no better than mac and we will all leave for linux or something better.

[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]microsoft wont FORCE us to use this. they are not like Apple....and i hope it stays that way.[/citation]
But the problem is that we aren't sure of that. They control the OS and they could if they wanted to... Hopefully you are right though and it does stay that way.

we should all reFormat our computers in protest.. infact IMHO all online content delivery bloatware is rubbish, including steam.. impulse.. etc

it is a method to control and tie user accounts to game ownership forceing ppl to only purchase new product keys to play or use software, eliminating the second hand software market, as for other features like social networking and "gametags"... just utter rubbish imo.. if i wanted that i would register an online dating website..

swapping steam accounts to play games i own? or re ordering a galactic civilizations add on pack 3 times (thats right paid for it 3 times) just because i forgot log on details for impulse and the details i used to buy the pack first time round years back..

unfortunatly this seems to be the future of gaming on every platform, very sad indeed!!!

To help out, the "working" gamer purchases a better weapon and sends it to the player who in turn shows his gratitude by insulting us all by misspelling "pwn3d."

It's really frustrating to be in a conversation and suddenly hear "PAWNT!", "PONE-D", or even "PAWNED!". We're not playing chess buddy.

The origins of the word came from "owned". However, eerily similar typos led to the taunting of others with "pwned". Essentially, mocking the single kill/trash talking of a person who didn't even have enough skill to provide time enough to type properly. Now apparently it's trendy to come up with colorful new ways to spell "owned" but with numbers replacing vowels along with unexplained suffixes...

Anyways, what's sad is that most don't seem to realize that words like "pwn3d" and other variations are referring to the attempt of an individual to type "owned".

In addition...I'd like to point out the word "newbie" or "noob" or whatever people want to say. Again, in conversations you'll suddenly hear a very pronounced and phonetic "NOOB".

Back in the day...socializing during fps games was very common. However, people maintained many aliases. So in turn, "who is that" ended with an endeering term for new gamers as "new b.": As in he's not very good and he's everybody's bitch; hence "new b." Again typos led to a more common "newb"

Now to the editor: What's insulting is that these typos have become common slang terms in everyday language without any merit or understanding to the their origins.

Sorry, I had to get it off my chest. It's just irritating that typos have become so trendy and are becoming part of every day language. It was cute about 15 years ago on FPS servers!!!! Please move on 🙁

MS changed the XBox interface to a more Wii like interface because Nintendo was making more money. They want an interface for their Live games like XBox because it makes more money. What the "hardcore PC gamer" wants doesn't matter for them, because the Wii audience brings in more money, and MS is a company that wants to make money. Maybe they realized that Valve already has a tight grip on the hardcore player, so they gave up on trying to satisfy them.

Understand that you, as a "hardcore PC gamer" make up a fraction of sales compared to consoles, so these people couldn't care less what you want. I don't really care either, because my concern is with the quality of the game, not my avatar. If the game is a quality game that's enjoyable to play, I'm going to go play it, not leer at the super deformed version of me on the dashboard.

if they announced that they were no longer EVER handeling a "hardcore" (as in any fps/raceing/sim/ect...) game again through live, id be happy, but to play online ill be forced to do that damn live thing. WE ALL HATE IT and they dont give a crap.

[citation][nom]humphreybot[/nom]steam sucks and valve sucks harder[/citation]

May God have mercy on your soul...

I assume all the trolling flamers have heard. The new majority "hardcore" gamer demographic isn't the penniless (*cough* - read torrent stealing) sub-25 boys anymore, it's the 40ish women (most with no intrest, let alone technical know-how for priracy, and actual incomes).
Microsoft is just doing what it does best, lining up the cash cows for slaughter.

[citation][nom]the_krasno[/nom]Thank god that we still have Steam as an alternative![/citation]
I purchased Dirt2 from Steam. It's a GFWL. While the game is good, I'll never purchase another GFWL.

I can only say that the GFWL is like an ancient shopping mall. GFWL is all the way in the back, next to what used to be Orange Julius in a moldy, disgusting corner. All the way in the back. Steam might end up being the Devil in the end, but as long as Microsoft's going to blow all of the goodwill they've engendered in the recent past I won't be frequenting MS for my gaming needs. I already can't even stand to use my 360 anymore. Please don't ruin everything else.

As a PC gamer does Microsoft think we a stupid or something, because that's how it seem in that video. I don't want the Xbox experience on the PC. If they want to support PC gaming then they need to make some killer products and support them.

How about a completely separate OS just for gaming? Open and developed by the PC parts manufacturers and game developers.. It should support nothing else but gaming. Rest of the stuff can be done in Linux. This will make Microsoft think twice or more.

Well I for one like it, windows live sux right now, I can't even chat to my cuz when he's on xbox... Can't chat to anyone on xbox. Btw it's obviously not going to look like that, hopefully it will be like the xbox counterpart. Btw the original xbox 360 interface was clunky and slow, no matter how easy it was it was slow.

I only read the first page of comments, I couldn't read another because it was bad, I can see most of you don't realize how this works... Yes Microsoft will force you to use this and no they don't have to wait until windows 8, they can do it on xp even.

Why? Because they already do... It's tied into the game not the operating system. I got some of those titles that use the crappy windows live we got now. It pretty much lacks most of the features you get on xbox, but if you choose to login to it on gta4, gears of war or any other windows live game you can get points.

It's like xbox 360 but with almost no features. I would also like to point out again that it is game specific... I bought gta4 on steam... I can still log into windows live and get points.

Personally im a little upset about the negative slant on this news, news is supposed to be objective...

Anyway just because you are a hardcore gamer doesn't mean you can't enjoy simple games too, I'm a super hardcore gamer and I enjoy simple games... I'm not a fan of ingame purchases though, it's the promis of something great but, you know corporations will abuse it.

Now I just wish games on pc could be saved to an sd stick, the xbox360 controller should work with almost every game and last I wish console like games would be released for pc... Since I have a big screen and an xbox controller.

For example Allen wake was not released for the pc because the company didn't feel the system was appropriate... But I could have played it exactly like on the xbox, even with the controller but with mind blowing gfx and better antialising.

Other games include Afro samurai, halo wars, ff13, that wicked game you play with futuristic Vikings but, the name slips my mind. And myryids of other Microsoft xbox games.

Not to mention gears of war 2 and probably 3, all the halo games after 2, fable 2 and again myriads of other great games.
And it's not that I want to play every game with a controller but, if you made the game for xbox I want the option.

I will never pay for online services on the pc however.
