My VG2021m monitor is causing me problems. It is sleeping all the time and the light on the front is orange. It does this when connected via VGA or DVI. But when you turn the monitor off then on, you can see the screen normally for a brief second and the blue light turns on. Then it goes to sleep again and no picture. What could be the problem and is the monitor dead?

Probably dud capacitors on the power supply board. If you have basic electrical knowledge and soldering skills, it's an easy and cheap repair. Often the faulty capacitor will be bulging or leaking fluid -- though can still fail without any visible signs.

I would replace both the medium sized capacitors (16volt Elite brand on my faulty Viewsonics) with ones of similar value and voltage rating. Observe polarity.

If you can't do it yourself, print this out (or Google "Viewsonic faults" or something like that) and print out the results and take them and the monitor to a local repair shop. If it is the capacitors, the replacements will cost about $2 max plus labour, of course.
