Okay heres a quick question for you. I just got a DFI mobo and i am using headphones with the onboard sound. The problemm is that there is not nearly enough volume comming through. I have everything cranked up, but i know for sure that it is not even close to being as loud as they can get on my other system. anyone have any ideas as too why, or what i can do?
i am using realtek97 drivers, and i have a thing called karajan audio adapter plugged into the board and i am currently plugging my headphones into the center/sub port. its the only one i get realistic sound from.
any help would be great thanks.

Some applications like winamp have an amp in the equalizer that can pump up the volume.
The powered speakers are a good idea also, try to find the ones that have a knob for bass in the speaker, that way you can modify the bass for headphone, or speaker use.

I have a set of Labtec LCS-1060 speakers that control the volume on the headphones. They're not very big but if you use headphones most of the time theyll work fine. They also have a bass/treble knob. I also have the Logitech x-530 5.1 surround speakers that have a headphone jack but it doesnt control the volume.
