my rig is a 1080ti w/ 4790k and ddr3 ram, its been giving me issues on the cpu end of things which i have been unable to solve, also in high fps games the gpu is held back a bit by the rest of the system, and also, i really want to build a sff system with the 1080 ti and ddr4 ram anyway. id really appreciate your advice on if i should wait for zen 3 to upgrade or if i should do a value ish orientated upgrade now, also i would really appreciate suggestions on what parts you think i should go for, mainly the CPU, thanks!:)

The minimum I would buy right now. In 2 years if you want to upgrade to the Ryzen 4000 you will be able to.

The new CPU could come in December. If you don't mind waiting and you want a new Ryzen 4000 CPU.

If you don't care and you think that a 8/12/16 cores would do the job for you right now just buy it right now.

I had a 4770k i7. it's close from what you have and I switched to a 3900X. I won't need to upgrade to a new Ryzen CPU unless my 12 cores 24 threads is starting to rush in games which I seriously doubt it will. In a few years maybe.

It's really up to you. By the way buying computer parts at this moment isn't the best thing. Price are higher. Parts are out of stock. Shipping is delayed.

If just gaming, the R5-3600 (and it's 6 cores/12 threads!) is plenty....(you can choose a less expensive B450, or, perhaps an X570 to be assured of at least the option to upgrade to a 4800X in two years time, not that it would likely be required...)

If waiting for a month or so, and an Intel fan, the new Z490 boards and the 10600K/10700K should be reviewed eventually....

firstly, thanks for that quick response guys, second, my plan so far was to build a full new pc in about 2 or more years and give this one a nice upgrade to last until then, i cant wait until winter because my current rig is giving a fair bit of trouble that i cant fix so i may forget about zen 3 for now. i will at least wait until july/august if you think price will go down a decent bit by then (im guessing they probably wont haha).
do you think for thermals and clock stability the 3800x is any better than the 3700x? not much in the price difference for me where i live. thanks

The main differences between the 3800X and 3700X being an extra 100 MHz of boost clock frequency on the 3800X and extra TDP headroom (105W for the 3800X versus 65W for the 3700X). The 21% higher release price translates to just a 2% higher effective speed over the 3700X.
