office 07 doesnt work with Wine. wow, i though the makers of Wine would shape there product around products like this.

MS should sell as like a package the .net liberies to non MS users for like £30 (nearly the price of an OEM OS0 so there OS of choice is compatibvle.

also i agree with all the other reasons you stated.

I publicly Apoligise for starting what is turing out to be a Flame war, sry. :pfff: but it was always gonna happen.

Well... it does sort of... with A LOT of work... ie install in windows... then move over files and random registry settings and dlls. Im sure eventually it will work, but at this time it doesnt.

EDIT: It seems the latest wine svn, with a few tweaks can install and run some of office 2007... word, excel and powerpoint have reportedly limited functionality (this is a pretty big step from not even getting to the install screen)

yeah. i guess you would have more luck trying to force the MAC version of Office to run, no offense to Open OFfice, but it really doesnt cut the musturd.

The irony there is indescribably amusing after your earlier "Apple sucks" tirade.
That's the point I was going for, there are way too many people on here who hate Apple for no other reason than they market and sell a product they don't want... They don't know anything about them, they just hate them...
It's pathetic... :sarcastic:

Well, I have to say this has made a quiet day at work a lot more bearable!

Bloody Dell shipping the wrong bloody monitors means the machines I would otherwise be wondering around the building "taking out the box and turning on" are being left in the boxes.

No fun!

what its a reliable motor vehicle.

Apple aren't the only choice for those wanting stylish looking PCs, actually some of the PC alternatives makes the iMac look like it needs an update of it's design to compete. Sadly they usually cost as much or more than the iMac.
Look for PCs like,
the Gateway One,
Gateway-One-PC.jpg

Dells XPS One (probably the one most targeting the iMac crowd as it comes with Adobe Elements Studio, and isn't primarily a media PC)

and last but not least Sonys VAIO® LT Series.

Finally just to compare the newest iMac

And that's just the Design PCs I've heard about, there is probably more. Only search I did was to find photos to show you Mac lovers, that isn't likely to click a link to change your views on PCs, that PCs can be stylish.
The real beauty of the Windows PC however is that you aren't stuck with one design style. Installing OSX on a non Apple design is illegal according to the Terms of Use. With a Windows PC you can find your own style, even make a case yourself, or you can choose a practical design that allows upgrading or fits your wallet better.

About the iMacs I've been in contact with, the lamp and the newest design, the only advantage I have seen, besides Logic(seemingly superior $499 program for working with sound) that Apple have made a Mac only, is the fact that most of the students at my University don't bother to use them so there is usually no problem finding a free one.(we have 40 outdated PCs, in two rooms, allmost allways in use and ten Macs, just next door, that allmost only gets used when there is lessons(have seen some guys enjoying porn on one though, so I guess it's good for that too))

Funny thing is that when searching for photos of the Design PCs most of the hits, at least on the first image pages in google, came from varius Mac sites. Maybe Mac users are looking for a switch? Might also explain why we have gotten so many Mac users here on Tom's :kaola:

Mac switched to intel as more or less Intel had the better chip and maybe Intel helped them out a bit more than they should..
2 Yes i do have one actually, Its different to the pc, and its a breath of fresh air.
3 Yes but Tiger has that customised mac feel
4. I was on about the dome mac with the monitor sticking out.
5. Great open office is good
6. Vista is shat, Still prefer XP as it does what it is told, unlike Vista which pops up with are you sure you want to do that and click on it atleast twice even if I break wind sitting in the other room.
7. Apple keyboards do ooze class though and its a nice keyboard to use where pcs have to be searched for.
8. I didnt list 8 down to mars bars little brother.
9. Im so glad
10. Ditto

1.. No, not all Apples look like a disgrunted tin box with multitude of colours painted like a old Jaguar car with stripes giving the user that they thought a sticker with what processor is in side might make it work faster.
2. I have had experience as i have worked for a design bureaux in London ( its a French word by the way and not its not a make of care, type of dog or weener ).
3. Unix may be old but its still far better than any Windows platform and has had 64 bit support for ages.. oh and multi processor and thread capable. All the worlds fastest computers use some sort of Unix based os.
4. Yes but spending a life time putting a computer in a cake tin and adding wheels is surely childs lego or mechano for adults.
5. OMG you do actually surprise me on that one making me spill my coffee.
6. I used to program and set up mm let me see CP/M, MSDOS from dos 1.2 to 6.22 , Unix, Xenix and AIX, Concurrent dos ( a multi user dos to you) and CLI ( Amiga ) for Windowed based applications from GEM os to all versions of windows and Mac OS, Also Geos on the Commodore 64 - ooh remember that crikey it was slow. Workbench on the Amiga ... So I can honestly say i know what im on about. But anyway your government is running Echelon on unix base platforms..
7. No really again your knowledge on usb devices is amazing.
8. How do you power on your pc.. Button at the front I assume.
9. But again CS3 on a mac is just worth it...
10 Urg yes most designers should use CRT but due to everyone waging a war about leaving things plugged in for a second and as most disigners have some sort of eco tendencies then i guess in most space / size restricted areas flat screen monitors rule. But then again 24 bit monitors are around .

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/lacie-324-24-inch-10-bit-lcd-for-the-pros/

and im sure 32 bit wont be long..

Vista is a good os, but not the perfect OS.. Still needs some hard work doing.. Is that why Mr Gates offered Windows 7 so soon and XP's gonna last that bit longer...

Im not having a flame war,, all I am saying is that pcs have their niche in the market which is obviously much bigger than any Mac. And pcs are more expandable, do more etc etc but Macs have their niche too and its not to be pushed aside by abnoxious pc uses... Most pc users have not even tried a Mac, so leave the "Windows" machine by the front door and try something different, if then you dont like it fine. Some people prefer red wine to white thats all.. I keep a open mind on it..

Maybe you should just leave the Dells where they are and buy proper pc's
