Mousemonkey,
you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on the subject. So what is your opinion on the best video card for me? hd 5870, hd68xx, gigabyte gtx 470 SOC are just some possibilites. What would YOU prefer for your machine given a 200~300$ budget.

I don't work in Dollars mate, we use proper money in the UK! As for the card I'm personally waiting on the GTX560 as I think that's going to be a card worthy of replacing my ageing 8800GT's, I intend to get two of them from the get go and if my e8400 can't handle that then a new might be in order.

I would get the HD 5807 given the 200$-300$ budget, If you can find a 5870 On a good 220$ or so sale, if not try for a 250$ 6950.

I would also try to swing a GTX 570 as it is a much nicer card than nay of the ATI offerings.

went digging into my old thread and thought i'd share that i mustered up enough money for a 350$ ~ card. I'm pretty sure i want a gtx 570. Many have said it will give me the best performance for a single card, as my mobo is not sli or crossfire capable. Is there anything better than a gtx 570 at that price range?

probably not unless you play @ 2560 x1600
