Want to drop Dish but keep the movies in the hopper. If I buy a hopper online and change out the 2 hard drives inside so I can keep the 250 movies I have recorded will the old drive work in the new hopper?

Solution
More than likely not. If dish "hoppers" work like traditional DVRs from most service providers the data on the hard drive will have an encryption key which can only be read by that DVR. If you move it to a new DVR (hopper) the data will not be accessible and the new device will tell you as much. It will should then ask you if you want to write over the data or use another drive.
