i have had my PC for a couple years and when i built it i went kinda cheap for a lot of it, so now that i have the money im looking to upgrade it and im wanting to upgrade my GPU first to 2070, and i dont know if the 2070 will fit/if i need a better PSU

My PC
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
CPU - AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core
Motherboard - GA-970-Gaming SLI
PSU - hpg-600st-f12s (600W)

Thanks in advance!

The wattage should be sufficient. Although the PSU model in itself is not that great. It's not bad either but I would say mediocre.

I would really suggest investing in a good Gold Rated 700w PSU from Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic. I'm suggesting this because I am guessing that by getting a 2070, this also means that you would probably want to upgrade the rest of your rig (CPU/Mobo/RAM) somewhere in the future to use the 2070 to its full potential, so I would say that it's best to get it out of the way as you don't really want to cheap out on PSUs.

RTX 2070 on FX system seems like a total waste.
FX-8320 will seriously limit performance of the system.

Ok thanks, are there a couple PSU's you would reccomend? I know decent enough about CPU and GPUs but PSU's i dont know much about

This is a very good price for a top-notch PSU.

As for the upgrade, I would not buy a 2070 unless you're upgrading your CPU/MB soon. Because if it's going to be a year or two, that $500 spent now, to no great effect, could be spent on an even better GPU in a year or two.

whalen799 Hello. If I were personally in your situation, I would do the following:

If I were to buy the RTX 2070, then I would definitely go for the Super; the normal RTX 2070 is about to be removed from the market.
However, in your case I would opt for a lower-end GPU upgrade (e.g. GTX 1660 Ti - $280) and use the difference to buy a new platform. That is, unless you have the money to buy both the 2070 Super ($500) and the Ryzen Zen 2 platform ($355).

Buy GTX 1660 Ti ($280)
Buy Ryzen 5 3600 ($200) / B450 MB ($80 - $125) / 16GB 3200 MHz CL16 RAM ($75)
Buy new PSU: 650 watts / gold efficiency / quality mfg. & model (e.g. EVGA G2 650, etc)

Sell used GTX 1050 Ti (~$115 on Ebay).
Sell used FX-8320 + MB combo (maybe $100 on Ebay)
Sell used DDR3 RAM
Recycle hpg-600st-f12s (I wouldn't even give this power supply away to a friend, no offense).

** motherboard possibilities **
Asrock B450 Pro4 / MSI ARSENAL GAMING B450 TOMAHAWK / Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming
I own the Asrock B450/B350 Pro4 motherboards in two rigs, and I like them for their stability and fast boot times.
!! warning: I do not know if any of these or other B450 chipset motherboards have their BIOS pre-updated for Ryzen 3000 series. You'll need to find the answer to this question, if you proceed on this path. To my knowledge, a person normally needs to have the Ryzen 2000 series, or previous generation installed, in order to update the BIOS for the 3000 series CPU.

It would be good to know the rest of the build in order to recommend a good PSU. But I think you might want to get something like a Corsair RMX, Seasonic Focus Plus, EVGA G1/2/3 or EVGA Supernova series. Preferably something that's 650W and above so it can cover your CPU upgrade in the future bcause right now, with your FX -8320, you're not using the full potential of the RTX 2070. So it's good to take into account the CPU upgrade as well.

The way I see it here, you have two choices:

1. Get a less powerful GPU and also upgrade your CPU (which also means you need to upgrade your RAM to DDR4 and get a compatible AM4 motherboard).

or

2. Get the RTX 2070 if you really want it and later on upgrade your CPU so that you can unlock its full potential.

But in both cases, you should get something that 650W and above as in both scenario, you will be upgrading quite a lot.

So i have been looking around at these 3 MOBO's that you put, and from what i understand the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming says it supports ryzen gen 1 and 2, so does that mean that when i get it i can then do a BIOS upgrade or i'm so confused by this in particular, Thanks for all the great info though!

whalen799 Here is the deal: I was initially going to suggest that you buy a MSI tomahawk motherboard, because they have a feature called "BIOS flashback" which will allow you to flash the BIOS to ready it for a Ryzen 3000 CPU, without the use of a Ryzen 2000 series CPU. You would have had to download the BIOS via your current computer, onto a flash (USB) drive. However, there is a newly discovered issue with MSI B450 motherboards, which is the BIOS chip has insufficient capacity of 128 Mb (Megabits) or 16 MB (Megabytes). Turns out that 256Mb or 32 MB is what's needed to make the BIOS Ryzen 3000 series ready, without stripping out features. Based on this, MSI is releasing new versions of their B450 motherboards, with the title suffix "Max".

Do this: Wait for the MSI Tomahawk Max to release on Amazon or NewEgg. Not only will these boards have the appropriate BIOS capacity, but they will come pre-flashed with a Ryzen 3000 ready BIOS, therefore you won't need to bother updating it yourself; it'll be ready out of the box. You can get any "Max" MSI board that you want. It is also possible that other companies may release their own "Ryzen 3000 ready" motherboards with updated flashes. If that happens then feel free to buy any of those instead, if they offer you a better bargain. Lastly, other manufacturers may possibly have a similar feature to MSI's BIOS flashback, which would allow the updating without the use of a 2000 gen CPU. Given a week or two, I believe that this information will come out.
