Invoker645 :
I have a gigabyte GA-H61MA-D2V motherboard and AMD graphics card and want to switch it with my NVidia one, can you please give me basic step by step instructions on how to safely switch them
Sure,
First you have to double check and make sure your Power Supply can push the new card, Check the requirements for the card and then check your PSU (wattage). If for example the card requires a PSU of 400 and your PSU is 300, then there is a chance (high chance) you'll run into issues when trying to game.
Lets assume that is not the case.
Now you google/download a program called DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Run said program and it will ask if you want to put your PC into "safe mode" select 'yes'. The PC will restart into safe mode.
If the program does not open on it's own, go ahead and open it again. Then make sure you've selected (or it's auto selected) your AMD GPU (graphics card).
It will ask you to select if you are uninstalling for new/updated drivers or if you are uninstalling/shutting down for a new card install, you select that one.
The DDU will uninstall all the AMD stuff, clean up the files and then shut down.
You then take out the old card, put in the new card.
Turn your PC back on and Windows should auto download/have the drivers to simply run the new card. Letting you get back up and running so you can go to Nvidia site and download/install the current drivers for your new Nvidia card.
OR you can just download the latest ones before you uninstall your old ones so you don't have to do that STEP.
make sure you put them on your desktop so you don't have to go searching where you downloaded them.
NOTE: you MUST uninstall AMD/old drivers before you install the new Nvidia ones.
Good luck!
