Hey all was hoping to pick some brains and see if anyone can help me with ideas of which pieces to upgrade first and any ideas on potential upgrades that will still work within the confinement of the current build (eg. same case, power etc)

I was planning on a Motherboard + CPU upgrade first, preferably a mobo that also has Wireless and bluetooth capabilities. Looking for the best rated gaming hardware and/or the next best (cheaper version) to compare.

My build: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/MzP64p

for those not going to link.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I may even have to upgrade pieces 1 at a time and wait to fit them in together.

Best Regards,

Best CPU option for gaming would be an AMD 9800X3D, a step down the AMD 7800X3D but since they're almost similarly priced the 9800 would be the logical option. For a motherboard I would go for a board fitted with a X870(E) chipset, but most of them are still a bit pricy so might be a lot cheaper to invest in a B850 chipset motherboard. Brand might be a personal choice so here a few options going from top tier down;

X870-E

X870

Thanks for this, Im not crazy about AMD could you suggest an intel CPU that would go well with some of these MOBO's? Much appreciated, sorry for the late reply.

Problem is Intel is behind right now. The 13th and 14th gen have had degredation issues, that while supposedly has been fixed, nobody knows for sure. Dead socket as well. The new core ultra chips are behind in gaming, and it's unclear if there will be another gen of chips for the new platform it runs on. AM5 has upgrade potential.

I still would start with a better GPU, regardless. The 10700k isn't great, compared to the latest and greatest, but it is still a fairly capable CPU, for 1440p. Your GPU is what is holding you back right now, especially with that 8gb vram buffer. I doubt you would see any improvement, unless you are playing something that doesn't care much about GPU vs CPU.

I’d say grab a gpu right now and sell the 3070. Then you can decide from there. As someone who was using a 12600kf, which was a decent cpu but I decided I wanted to upgrade the cpu but after seeing the stuff going on with 13th and 14th generation I jumped to AMD socket am5 and got a 7600x3d which I’m pretty happy with. The good thing was I sold the 12600kf and picked up an i5 12400 and a few extra parts and put together an updated home office pc for my wife which should be a nice upgrade from her i7 3770.
